General Tao's Tofu question....

I've made this recipe before but I don't have any egg replacer. The last time I made it the tofu was too cornstarchy (if that's a word!) probably because I didn't have the egg replacer. I'd like to know what other breading or batter I could use to cover the tofu then fry it? Or what I could use instead of egg replacer? ???
Thanks, what ratios?
when i made this i cornstarched (actually used arrowroot) and then used a flax and water egg and then more arrowroot and baked them.... it worked very well
I'd suggest the batter from better than sonic's onion rings...as another totally different batter... i really liked it.

thanks for all the suggestions! I decided to cube the tofu, sprinkle it with soy sauce and bake rather than fry... more healthy that way! I followed the sauce recipe exactly and served it with steamed broccoli & carrots over brown rice. Sooooo tasty!
