Fried Tofu

O.K., so I know it's not healthy, but I tried some fried tofu last night and really liked the texture. I had used a recipe where you freeze and unthaw it before cooking. Is there a way to give it more flavor prior to frying? Would it be O.K. to marinate it before the breading goes one? The texture was awesome, but they were just a bit bland on their own, so we smothered them in a BBQ sauce. Thanks for any ideas! :)
Yeah, you can marinate it. It probably won't have exactly the same texture..b/c of the extra moisture. Maybe try frying it on a lower heat for a longer period of time...so it firms up. I don't like marinating my tofu b/c I like the really firm texture.
careful marinating the frozen thawed tofu. it really sucks up moisture. especially soy sauce. once i did this and had to throw it out because it was tooooooo salty. i think you are better off not marinating the thawed stuff. it sucks up the flavor of your sauce after anyways....

I'll echo this. I've found that freezing/thawing and then marinating doesn't work so well. You're better off finding a nice recipe for a dipping sauce!
Thanks Guys, I appreciate the advice and will definitely heed the warnings. The sauce we used was really good, so I guess I'll just stick with various yummy sauces. :)
