Freezing cut potatoes

I cut up a whole bag of potatoes into fries and tried to freeze most of it to easily pop into the deep fryer whenever I wanted some.  Obviously I didn't do it right because the ziploc bag was just one big frozen pile of cut up fries.  I tried thawing them out but, of course, they were just wet, spongy, soggy strips.  I thought about drying them out in the microwave then putting in the fryer but gave up when they just weren't right coming out of the microwave.  All I did was cut the fresh potatoes and put them in a bag.  Should I have done something to them prior to putting in the bag and then into the freezer?  Can you not freeze raw potatoes in general and I need to bake them first?  Fries in the deep fryer are so much better and easier than baking them so I would love any advice on how to do this without having to bake them first.  I didn't think that they would all freeze together since you can buy the frozen Ore-Ida fries and they aren't all stuck together.

Spread them out on a tray and freeze them, then once they're frozen you can put them in a bag and they won't stick together.

Personally, I don't think potatoes freeze all that well, but for fries they might be ok since they're supposed to be soft inside.

Cut them how you want, then freeze them on a tray until almost frozen.
Put in a bag a put a little cornflour/cornstarch in the bag and shake to coat them.
Get rid of the excess.
The should feeze better, without sticking.

But, yeah, potatoes don't freeze that well.
Potatoes keep for a pretty long time, though... Just keep them in a dry, clean, dark space and try not pile them up on each other too much.

Also, if you want them for future convenience you slice them how you want, put in a container and cover with water and a sprinkle of salt.
That should keep in the fridge for up to a week.
