expired silken tofu?

i bought some silken tofu to make pumpkin pie for (canadian) thanksgiving, but ended up moving and not getting around to it.  now it's expired (oct. 7th) and i'm trying to decide whether to eat or not.  my only hesitancy is because i once got food poisoning from yves veggie meat (ya, i know) that lasted 3 days.

WWYD?

Toss it if:
The package is swollen
The water is slimy or cloudy
The tofu looks a funny colour

If not, give it a good rinse, and use it. Use it in something cooked, for preference.
But if it really bothers you--how much did it cost? You can probably afford to toss it. Tofu here is like $1.50 a pound...so if in doubt, I throw it out! Having said that, though, I've used "old" tofu with no ill effects. But if it's slimy, then no.

I'd toss it.

I would also second putting it in a cooled dish OR boiling it in some water (I do this with the bulk tofu I get at the asian food market because I've seen people grabbing it with their hands!  :o)

Wait--you can Boil tofu?? I didn't know that!  :o
Is there no end to this wonderfood?

I'd use it! I hate to throw away food. Its not even that old. Companies have to put a date on stuff-doesn't mean it spoils right on that date. Of course if it smells funny or anything don't use it. I always use my expired stuff.

that's my thing... it's not about the $ i just hate to toss out perfectly good food.  there's 2 of them, too.  meh, i think i'll check for slimy/discolouration and if they're OK, just use them. :)  thanks for the responses.

If in doubt throw it out... It's not worth puking for 3 days over a $2 package of tofu.
