Club Vitamix!!!!
Here's a thread to post vitamix recipes, success stories, and even things you don't like about the Vitamix. If you don't have one, feel free to lurk and maybe you'll be convinced to get one.
So far, I my favorite thing I have made is Orange Sorbet. (oranges, sugar, ice). It made so much and I put leftovers in the fridge. In the morning it was liquid and tasted like Orange Julius!
Here's something I don't like: I made hummus and it was really hard to get it all out from under the blades. Am i missing something here? It seriously took me like 10 minutes and I still didn't get all of it. I just gave up.
The hummus was very creamy like peanut butter but not like in real Mediterranean Restaurants. My sister said try removing the skin from the chic peas first!
I do not have the dry grinder blades. Do any of you? Is it worth getting?
Tonight its chocolate peanut butter icecream using coconut milk.
Wow! I just made the peanut butter ice cream recipe found in the Vitamix recipe binder and it is INCREDIBLE! I subbed soymilk for the milk and I added a tablespoon or two of cocoa powder and then a bunch of chocolate chips at the very end. Totally delicious.
thats definitely our favorite one too!!! soo good.
I love being able to make ice cream any time I want it, but I think that it is a little dangerous!
haha definitely. especially since you cant just store it in the freezer like ice cream maker ice cream, you have to eat it all right then.
Haha! And super fast too! It melts so quickly that I try to eat it as fast as possible! I bought coconut milk last night and shaved coconut. I am planning on making some coconut ice cream tonight! Yum!

Delish!
i've been having some problems with my vitamix lately. so i was just making a quiche, silken tofu and some spices. that should be easy in the vitamix!! i had it on variable 5 and it started vibrating so much the top popped off and it started moving around in a circle, i let it go and it when 180* around. eek. it didnt sound good either. have you had any problems like this?? what could it be??
hmm....not sure. I've had stuff like that happen before when I had in a bunch of really cold stuff or too full....yeah it can get freaky like that. i would call the customer service. it IS a lot of power, so maybe it's just always supposed to be all loud and scary lol...i think it has like 700 horsepower or something :o
It's official - we can have a "Recipes using the Vita-Mix Machine" category. (The title "Vita-Mix Recipes", while short and sweet, implied that the recipes were created by Vita-Mix Corp.) Here's a link to the new category: http://vegweb.com/index.php?board=770.0
I am registered and get the following message when I try to click the link: The topic or board you are looking for appears to be either missing or off limits to you.
Am I doing something wrong?
It's not working for me either, and I don't see the category in the list either.
I actually have a recipe to add for hot chocolate!
It used to be a whole category. It was removed. (I don't think there were many recipes in it.) Maybe they could make a category for specialized equipment, so there could be a subcategory for Vitamix recipe, a subcategory for dehydrator recipes, etc.
well anyway, HOT CHOCOLATE!!!
a handful of raw cashews
a mug full of hot/boiling water
a pinch of salt
a splash of vanilla
a chunk of chocolate (from a baking bar, or handful of chips)
agave to taste.
Blend on high for a about 30 seconds
You will NOT BELIEVE THIS!
the "milk" is great even before the chocolate....warm or cool even!
I'm in HOT COCOA Heaven!
I usually use mine to make green smoothies, but I've also ground sugar into confectioner's sugar, made pureed soups, and made tomato sauce. The smoothies are great. I found the making my own confectioner's sugar actually worked better in a regular blender (maybe I didn't do it long enough?) and same goes for tomato sauce and pureed soups--too bubbly in the Vita-Mix. Any idea how to fix that?
I always end up with a boatload of tomatoes from the garden every year. If there is a way to make tomato sauce in the Vitamix without having to peel the damn things I will be one happy camper. I NEVER get the whole boil/cold water/peel thing right. Too much time. I want to wwwzzzzzzzz, can and freeze.
I have never peeled tomatoes to make marinara... I just use them whole, even before my VitaMix. What's the point of peeling? To make it smoother? I've never had a texture problem, though I like chunky sauce.
Sorry to revive an old thread, but I'm excited. I have wanted one of these for years, and I'm finally able to get one. I'm buying a refurbished one with my tax refund. I can't wait to get it. I have burned up several cheaper blenders in the past. Despite the lack of sleep, today has been a great day.
Is the Vitamix like the Health Master Montel Williams is promoting? It seems very similar and it is way cheaper... Thoughts?

I found this to be a nice comparison. It really isn't that much cheaper once you add shipping, the extended warranty, etc. that the Vitamix comes with. There are other concerns as well.

I just got a coupon in my email for a reconditioned 5200 for only $379. If anyone wants me to forward that to you, let me know by PMing me!~
That is what I ordered. I can't wait to get it! I know I'll use it a bunch, especially with summer coming on.
Darn - I was so excited about the prospect of a a VitaMix recipe section. I usually just use mine for making shakes, smoothies, and the occasional frozen banana ice cream. I want to get more creative, but I'm not sure where to start. I'll give some of the ideas mentioned here a whirl. Anyone got any new ideas to share?
