Chickpeas still OK to eat?

I started soaking some chickpeas on Sun night with the intention of cooking them on Monday. I got busy with end of term stuff and only now (Tues) just cooked them (I didn't try one)- I was going to make roasted chickpeas. Are they still OK to eat? They've been at room temp the whole time and I can'ttell if they've started to ferment yet.HELP! I don't want to waste if I don't have to. :o
Try eating a handful and then doing some chores for an hour or something. Trust me, if they're not good, you'll know by then. Good luck! :o
ok, listen to BP over me. i don't usually forget my beans, but I do frequently try the "taste and wait" test to lots of groddy foods around my house! ::)
meh. you're too picky about your food then....I guess having a dog means we share similar values: if it looks like food, hurry up and put it in your mouth. If it tastes yucky, spit it on the floor. If it makes you feel yucky, your body will figure out a way to get rid of it. :P
You owe me some pretzels - send 'em express so they don't get moldy!
dink...how is it that you are still managing to be alive? :o severed digits, rotten foods.... ???

;D I always say that a dog's philosophy is "Eat first; decide if it's edible later."
You threw away perfectly good margarine? You're crazy.
I edited my profile to call myself a vegan disaster :P And yes, I got the "edge" pun.
Addendum to the dog motive: if your mom tries to pry it out of your mouth, gulp it down as fast as possible!!!
Dink, I'm with you. I'm known for picking up mystery objects (just from my kitchen, mind you) and putting them in my mouth to find out what they are. I'll eat food off the floor, food that's been left out of the fridge, food that many people wouldn't necessarily call food, etc. We've been making homemade dog food for a while, and I even try that from time to time (and that stuff is NASTY-- a mix of beans, grains, pureed fruit and veg, blackstrap molasses, wheat germ, nutritional and/or brewer's yeast, sea vegetables, soy protein powder, etc.).
I left soaking chickpeas out once, and they did ferment. And they smelled like vomit. I did not eat those. Other times, I've left 'em out soaking for days with no adverse effects-- I guess it depends on the particular chickpea. :)

Finally someone else with some sense around here. ;) Oh, and you too Hespedal (you posted while I was typing). At least this thread's not about falafel ;D

If it were about chickpea-free felafel, would it be okay? ;) :D
Ok, thanks everyone. I'll give them a try!!
All I can say is that you girls are some brave people!!!! (I was going to say you girls have some balls! :D ) I'm with Baypuppy on this one...when in doubt..throw it out. With how sensitive my stomach is I'd be sick for a week!

Cuz chickpeas are awesome! ;)
Just be careful about eating anything that has mold on it. Especially nuts. Some of them can be highly carcinogenic (aflatoxin).
Generally speaking, I soak chickpeas for about 24 hours every time, unless I get impatient. Even if they are sort of bubbly and the water has leached the color from them, they're okay. You will know by the off aroma and flavor if they have gone bad. They will smell weird!
I generally change the water if I don't like the way it looks. THey will smell fermented and even alcoholic if they have gone bad.

good to know! see, this is why i TOSS OUT stuff that is sketchy!!
ah, see, i knew about that... so i would have done that anyway. SOME mold is a-ok, some not so much. DO NOT EAT A MOLDY NUT! as kbone said. that is one thing i wouldn't do.

you know, when you automatically get rid of all the sketchballs, you miss the golden opportunities that just need a chance...

old would be a-ok?
Just curious....
p.s.
I eat 'sketchy' food all the time. I think the 'throw it out' test should be a more case-by-case sort of thing...
