Can mirin go bad?

Hey vegwebers - I got a question for ya. A while ago (maybe 4 months), I bought some mirin 'cause I found this kickin' mirin/sesame seed/miso sauce that I put on all my grilled veggies all the time. Then I went into a baking phase, then I moved, and I haven't used it in about 8 weeks, so tonight I pulled it out of the cabinet, and it smells a little musty....and has a little sediment...is this normal? Can mirin even go bad? Let me know what ya think, thanks! ???

I actually make mirin. I store it in the frig. It never goes bad on us ... Well, then again, we use it all the time, so it doesn't have a chance LOL.

It can... but rice wines usually smell a little musty to me.  If it smells "off," it might be.
