Ok so every now and then I see an ingredient and wonder, "Is this vegan?" When I don't know I don't buy the product.... so I felt this would be a good thread so people can post something they are unsure about get an answer and then buy accordingly. So if you know please post an answer to peoples questions. ;)b
My first questionable ingredient is imitation beef flavoring. It is in a product similar to Ramen Noodles except is instant Udon and is way better for you b/c it only has 1 gram fat as opposed to the 7 or so in Ramen noodles.
Maybe this can help. http://www.happycow.net/health-animal-ingredients.html
As far as the imitation beef flavouring goes, unless it says vegan, there is probably animal products in it.
Here is another link of vegan products....mostly junk food by the way but it's all vegan.

I've always wondered are Triscuits vegan...especially the flavored ones.

It looks like they are. This is on the accidentally vegan link, Triscuit Crackers (Original, Reduced Fat, Garlic Herb, and Roasted Garlic)
jessesmum thanks for the sites they're really helpful :) and I hope that others can use this thread to find answers to their questions.
Thanks....I'll try to remember to buy those brands.
Does anyone know if oreos are vegan?
yes oreos are vegan
A lot of the things listed on the "accidentally vegan" list aren't actually vegan.
Their disclaimer:
*Items listed may contain trace amounts of animal-derived ingredients. While PETA supports a strict adherence to veganism, we put the task of vigorously reducing animal suffering ahead of personal purity. Boycotting products that are 99.9 percent vegan sends the message to manufacturers that there is no market for this food, which ends up hurting more animals. For a more detailed explanation of PETA’s position, please visit http://www.caringconsumer.com/labels.html.
While I mostly agree with that statement, I'd rather avoid things like vitamin d3, which are animal derived.
The "accidentally vegan" site lists certain cereals which contain this, among other things.
always read the ingredients, and when I don't know what something is, I google it.
if you buy something and later on find out it's not vegan, eat it or give it away.
the money was spent.
(I wouldn't eat something containing meat, however).
I thought imitation beef/chicken was fake, but that's probably not the case, especially since a lot of "fake crab" is actually other fish.
sorry for the long post haha.
I'm thinking the imitation beef flavoring is probably not animal derived. I always check the cholesterol too- if its 0 it probably means no animal products. I would email the company. My HFS sells imitation beef boullion that is vegan (in bulk). Chicken too.
Ferrara Pan Atomic Fireballs and Jawbusters (jawbreakers). Does anyone know if these are vegan? I've been trying to find the ingredients online but have been getting mixed results. Please give me a hand if you can.

most Ferrara Pan are coated in beeswax.
I don't know if this the same for imitation beef, but I know that most imitation chicken flavoring has lactose in it, which most likely comes from milk. Even if it doesn't, it could still make you sick if you have a dairy sensitivity, which I've heard most vegans develop over time (I know I am). And, I know a lot of artificial flavorings like that also contain MSG, which we all know should not be consumed in copious amounts.
I find that the best way to figure out if something is vegan is to just pick a day where you can have plenty of time at the store and just go through reading labels. I have learned so much that way. For instance, tonight I discovered that at the Cub near my house, the dutch apple pies in the bakery are vegan. :-)
my boyfriend gets goya beef flavoring and the only questionable ingredient in it is "natural flavoring". he swears that its vegan, but i dont think so, it always makes me feel a little queasy, thats usually how i figure out if something with "natural flavoring" is vegan or not.
So I was watching Howard the Duck last night, and as POP star Leah Thompson was making out with the alien duck.... I couldn't help but wonder.... is that vegan?
I mean.....I know vegans love animals but ummm.......yeeeeeaaaahhhhh.
Maybe someone could clear that up for me?
I love that movie. I'd totally make out with Howard the Duck, ftr.
eta: Howard would have to let me scope that PlayDuck mag, though. Otherwise, NO DEAL. ::)
