Baking Tofu

I need your help... I tried baking tofu once so far (I baked it at 350 F for kabout 40 minutes flipping halfway) and expected it to turn out kind of well crispy... It was more on the mushy side... Is this how baked tofu is supposed to turn out?

Can anyone suggest some tips/techniques/recipes for some good baked tofu? Thank you for your help!

how long do you bake it for? what temp?

Yeah, baking just firms it up and allows it to take up some flavor.  I use nutdragon's method in this thread: http://vegweb.com/index.php?topic=13504.0
I do press it first though.  I brush on some soy sauce and maybe sprinkle it with garlic powder, and do the same on the other side when I flip it.

;D Not really.  I've had that thread bookmarked ever since it was first posted.  I was crushed when the boards went away for a while and I didn't have my tofu baking instructions anymore.

aml, I bake tofu a lot. You can get it crispy. Slice it fairly thinly, marinate, take it out of the marinade and put on an oiled baking sheet. You can coat it w/ breading or ny, or leave it as is. I bake in a preheated oven between 400-450 for 15 min. Flip. Bake another 15 min. It gets chewy w/ crispy edges.

I make sure I press it lots (frozen thawed tofu bakes well, too) and have a bit of oil in the marinade. I bake at 350 for a half an hour or so, and then I kick it up to broil (in the toaster oven) and this gets it crispy and done.
