2010 meet up location poll (preliminary!)

Let's talk about it! Europe sounds amazing, but I don't know how feasible that is, for us.

I like the idea of Chicago, Portland, NYC, or maybe Austin. I'm pretty open at this juncture.

eta: I can't decide b/w Portland and Chicago! I voted for Portland..I want to know who else did!

You know what? I'm sure Portland is cool. But we're talking summer here. Summer. Equals the beach. Do they have that in Portland? Maybe. But they definitely have them in Santa Monica. SO THERE.

I voted for Chicago... I am a  midwesterner afterall.... :)

I voted a Canadian city...I think Montreal! Mainly because I love it, AND it has tons of awesome vegan spots, and yes. Although I'd also be able to get to places in NY pretty easily. Depending on when this happens, I might also have more $$$ because my student loan will (hopefully) be paid off by the summer!

LOL fb,

yes, we do have 'beaches' up here (though we refer to it as 'the coast'), they're about an hour's drive away from Portland proper, but still nice and great for kite flying!

well, if we're gonna play that game - NZ has over 15,000km of coast/beach... that's right, only 4,000 less than the WHOLE US, even though we're smaller than the state of Colorado.  So were any of you to come anywhere here, you'd be by a beach.  In fact, it's impossible to be more than 120km/75 miles from a beach. Beat that! : )

I'm dying to go to Voodoo doughnuts in portland!

No, the coast isn't cold year long, it is definitely cooler than inland, though. It is temperate (70-90) approx May to September, then it dips down into the 60's but that is normally as low as it goes.

Ah, but consider this: there is a vague distance-to-beach ratio to consider. For Portland and Santa Monica, the distance is about equal, which calls into question who has the superior beach/es. Though NZ is undoubtedly beautiful everywhere, its distance-to-beach ratio is much lower. Additionally, my passport is expired :p

PPC take that back!!!  I bought a dozen vegan raised donuts from VooDoo in June and they were all light airy and (aside from the grape ape) delicious!

They had cake varieties right next to the raised but the later was what I wanted and what I got.  So fabulous.  I wish I lived in Portland so I could have some often.  But then I would be like 300 pounds too!

ok cali - i'll take it back - they mustve added them since i was there back in the fall..  back then it was only cake donuts and they were all banana flavored with different toppings.  very boring compared to mighty-o's massive selection and varieties. im glad to hear they've improved!

*hugs PPC*

While we only got raised so I didnt taste any of the cake flavors to compare your experience, everything we had was good.  Even Angel was impressed with their donuts.

(I did note that we did not like the Grape Ape but thats just because of the flavored sugar coating was just too strong for my likes.)

And while Portland was awesome, I think to be fair an East coast meet up should be planned.

D: East coast?? But we the west coast! Think about it... us west coast people are too lazy to go anywhere. East coast people want an actual vacation (hence, it should be held on the west coast).

Whatever. If it's going to be on the east coast, I want it to be near upstate NY, so I can go visit my old school ^^
