Taking suggestions, recipe testers, etc. for a new weight loss book!

Hi lovely vegwebbers! :)
I've been thinking of what my next book will be & it's looking like a weight loss book. I came up w/ lots of recipe ideas today to experiment with & thought I'd mention that I always LOVE and WELCOME feedback & suggestions...
SO, for those of you who watch your weight (or have other health related concerns), are there any recipes or topics you'd like to see covered in a book?
Thanks in advance for any ideas! :)>>>
p.s. I'd love recipe testers & picture-takers too, if it's something you would enjoy doing & not find cumbersome!
i can always be a recipe tester... i would take pictures but VS would make mine look pathetic next to hers :(
i was wondering... you seem to use oil in your other book... how do u feel about cooking spray?
Most of the recipes in this book are lower in fat than RHIW, so cooking spray might work fine! And any pics are fine, although I might not use them in the book--I wouldn't even use mine, especially when compared to VS's!! Food photos are HARD.
Oncewerewesties, I think you could just look at the recipes and see which ones you'd have ingredients for. Even in RHIW, I used more widely accessible ingredients than many other books. I live in SW Colorado & can't get everything myself!
Baypuppy, thanks for the ideas! I'll mull them over for sure. I did add a drink (Cuke Lemonade) and a sauce just now. And no luck on the lasagna unfortunately! No plans for one in the new book--BUT I did just get an email from a cooking student praising my Luscious Lasagna from RHIW. She made it for a potluck (all omnis) and said it was the hit out of all three lasagnas there!! That made me happy. :)
i checked out all of your testers to see if anything happened to be edible for me to test, but that's a no go :(
it all looks awesome, though!
Hesp, is it cuz you're doing all raw foods? I plan to have several raw foods dishes in the book, but haven't posted them yet.
:)
yeah, i'm all raw low fat, high fruit. basically, if a lot of it (ie i can't make a meal out of it) isn't edible in it's whole state i don't eat it!
you should post the raw recipes!
You still have access to the site, right, Hesp?
Then as I post some of the raw recipes, feel free to jump in & test/comment. I know for sure I'm going to be doing an experiment w/ 1 or 2 raw kale dishes this week.
:)
I am thinking that it would be helpful if the recipes had callorie intake on them :) For loosing weight it is kinda helpful. Thank you and looking forward to see a book! Good luck !
Thanks!
Although the recipes are all low calorie/lowfat, I do not have exact calorie counts. My approach to weight loss in my book will not directly be calorie-based.
Roger that.
What a good idea for a cookbook quintess! I can't think of any ideas offhand, but I would love to test recipes and/or photograph recipes. That is if you need another tester lol seems like everyone's jumping at the chance ;)

Thanks! :)
I do have a lot of testers, but I find that only a handful of them really make a lot of the recipes and comment. So, please feel free to give me your e-mail address if you really think you'd make the recipes & I'll hook you up! Pictures are always welcome too. Badass Baypuppy has already taken several, and I'm just waiting to see what Vegansapien comes up with...
;)b
Yumtown. I might have to use that!
I am so so excited....I am making 2 of the recipes right now and it all smells so bloody goddam 'yumtown'!! I can't wait for dinner.
Whatcha making? And are you posting comments after the recipes, Shelloid? :)
I'll definitely post comments...but no pics as my bf threw away my new camera batteries!!! And I still don't know how to work my phone camera. Crap.
I stole bp's idea of quinoa with tofu. nom nom!
I wish I'd made a half batch instead of quarter batch of the yumtown tofu. I want more!
A couple of things I'd love to see in more cookbooks are recipes or ideas for quick breakfasts and packable lunches. Most cookbooks focus too much on dinner, some exclusively. Ones that do have breakfast recipes usually have ones for things like pancakes or baked items that just aren't reasonable for the average workday morning. Even if there aren't actual recipes, but ideas for different things to put together to make a nice breakfast would be welcome. Make ahead recipes that can be packed for lunch in the morning or even the night before that don't require reheating and that don't turn unappetizing by lunchtime would be great, too.
I do prefer cookbooks with nutritional analyses so that would be a plus. As are pictures of each dish of course.
I'd be happy to test recipes for you and report back on them if you'd like. I've done a bunch of editing work and also recipe testing. I don't have a good digital camera, so can't help out with print quality photos, but can take pictures of a finished dish just to show how it turned out if that helps at all.
Here! Here! I'm always on the lookout for easy/tasty breakfast and lunch recipes. I really crave salty/savory breakfast dishes but don't have a ton of time to make them. I really like in cookbooks when the author includes info on why such and such ingredient is healthy in a particular recipe, it makes me want to try it more... I can't think of anything else more helpful at the moment.
I don't have a ton of free time, but I would enjoy being a tester, I've wanted to be a recipe tester for some time.
That's nice to hear, Sara! Bcuz I did that A LOT in my other book (why ingredients are used for health purposes) because I personally love to think about the health benefits while I'm eating! Happiness.
it will be nomnom.
you should call that tofu "yumtown tofu" cause it sounds more exciting.
skinny soup = yumtown soup
This. I'm not making the soy dishes because I'm hypothyroid and that would equal weight gain, but I'm not sure I'd feel full knowing I was eating "skinny soup" whereas I'd feel great eating "yumtown soup". Minds are crazy things.
I was planning to start cooking last Sunday, but I didn't make it to the store (it's a few hour roundtrip to drive to a place where I can get ingredients). I will be cooking and baking up a storm this weekend. I can't wait to use my pressure canner for the first time since I bought it last spring/summer.

A.R.G.H.!!!
Last weekend I had Christmas travel. Cooking on workdays is out, so today was my first day. I made the 30 to 40 minute one-way trek to the store and it was closed! So I went to the other store and it was closed, too! The Vietnamese market was open, so as least I have sushi-making supplies for a party next weekend. I didn't think regular grocery stores would close for New Year's Day (one of the closed stores was Trader Joe's).
I don't have any suggestions off the top of my head, but I would LOVE to help out as a recipe tester!
I'm a (relatively) new vegan who has been struggling to lose some troublesome college pounds for years and, though eating vegan by itself has had some wonderful results, I am looking to cook even more healthy meals.
Best of luck with your book and it there's anything I can do to help, please let me know!
Sure, Lorienleigh - you are welcome to still test recipes. I should be in testing mode for at least another month. Just e-mail me at eval(unescape('%64%6f%63%75%6d%65%6e%74%2e%77%72%69%74%65%28%27%3c%61%20%68%72%65%66%3d%22%6d%61%69%6c%74%6f%3a%71%75%69%6e%74%65%73%73%40%63%61%72%65%32%2e%63%6f%6d%22%3e%71%75%69%6e%74%65%73%73%40%63%61%72%65%32%2e%63%6f%6d%3c%2f%61%3e%27%29%3b')) (or just reply to this with your email) and I'll add you.
The recipes are all vegan and perfect for weight loss! :)
