I've had VCTOTW for a while but haven't made anything out of it yet. Yes, I'm a loser! :D

COOKIES N CREAM!!!!!!!!!!!
the coconut lime ones are super bombstander, and so are the margarita ones. I liked the brooklyn vs boston creme ones, but didn't love them. The cashew butter cardamom ones are to DIE for.

Those cupcakes sound so delicious! I may have to check this book out. Are the ingredients relatively easy to find/purchase (ie, these cupcakes won't cost more than just buying a cupcake at Whole Foods)? :)

Same here! I got it for my birthday a month ago but holiday baking preempted any cupcake baking. I think a cupcake party is on order. Oooooh or maybe I should make some for New Year's!
People should post pictures of their finished cupcakes. I am curious to see if they turn out like their pretty pictures.

Yup, they are pretty basic. Vegan margarine, flour, soy milk, etc. :)

Mine never look like they do in the book...or like anyone else's online, so pictures would just turn everyone off. Story of my life
The most exotic ingredients are like..soy yogurt, agave, and extracts...nothing huge. I can make half of the recipes with stuff I have around the kitchen already

I've made a bunch of these recipes and only had 1 failure. Recently, I made the Mexican Hot Chocolate Cupcakes, which sank in the middle and stuck to the liners. All of the others I've tried have been total successes.
Golden Vanilla Cupcakes--classic Your Basic Chocolate Cupcake--another classic Brooklyn vs Boston Cream Pie Cakes--fantastic, in my top 3 Chocolate & Vanilla Marble Cupcakes--for those times when you can't decide between the two Banana Split Cupcakes--so delicious, top 3 Simple Vanilla & Agave Nectar Cupcakes--very tasty and no sugar Peanut Butter Cupcakes--classic combination Cookies 'N Cream Cupcakes--super rich and tasty Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cupcakes--very good and quick to throw together (I wasn't sure how this would be as I'd never had pumpkin and chocolate together, but these are delicious.) Cashew Butter Cardamom Cupcakes--probably my favorite, soooo wonderful Tiramisu Cupcakes--super delicious, just made these for Christmas, took half to my aunt and uncle's house for dinner who raved about them and asked for the recipe (also, you can skip the Kahlua and just use strong coffee or espresso by itself to saturate the cake interior which is what I did with some for those who can't consume alcohol) Peanut Butter Bomb Cupcakes--just made these, sooo delicious
PS--I've tried all of the accompanying frostings/icings/toppings, and they're great, too!

I made the crimson velvet cupcakes with buttercream frosting--I don't think I have the name ~quite~ right. They were good, but not super wonderful. I also didn't get the right food coloring so they ended up looking much more brown than red. Still tasty, though. Much better were the banana split cupcakes. I used the Elvis variation with peanut butter frosting, and they were extremely good! I gave most of them to a friend as a thank you gift and spent at least a day or two feeling resentful about it! Luckily, I now have another batch of thank yous to make, and cupcakes will definitely be involved. I'm with those who only make them when assured of getting most--though not ALL!--of them out of reach immediately!

I looked through the book today, and I can't decide! I want to start off pretty simple, and work my way to the more... interesting recipes.
there's an ironic feminist coffee house and bake sale (organized by the women's issues group at my university) that I'm going to bake up a storm for! I'm so excited - I really want to impress with super awesome, super yummy vegan cupcakes!
yum...

I have been looking forward to making the Cookies 'n Cream for a long time now! I just haven't quite gotten around to it yet... I LOVE the Tiramisu ones (I think I have a couple pictures of them in my profile); they are divine. My dad had one & said it was the best cupcake he has ever had! :D Coming from someone who's used to dairy- and egg-laden desserts, I take that as an especially nice compliment!
The classic vanilla & chocolate ones (the latter with PB frosting!) are also amazing. I have only had one disastrous attempt so far, which were with the Brooklyn Brownie Cupcakes (I think that's the name...). I followed the directions exactly & made sure to not overfill the liners (as the instructions noted), and they sank HORRIBLY! Into messy, mushy, sunken blobs. I couldn't even get them out of the cupcake tin without them just caving in on themselves into a little ball. They tasted all right, but looked really terrible. Those were to share with my co-workers on my birthday, so needless to say... I had to scramble to get something else made! ::)
Buuuuut, the other recipes have been extraordinary! This is putting me in the mood to try more! ;)

That sucks to hear that your Brooklyn Brownie Cupcakes failed so miserably, JessaCita (sounds like my Mexican Hot Chocolate ones). I was looking forward to trying those.

Well, I'm sure some people have had success with them! I'd say go ahead & try! :) I just didn't see anyone mention them in this thread, which is why I told my disastrous tale. Who knows--maybe I did overfill the cupcake liners, even by a little bit, which caused the sinking? There are so many other cupcake recipes I'd love to try, so I haven't really wanted to make a go of it again... Plus, I think it sounds like a cool novelty idea, like "Oooh! A brownie cupcake!", you know? But I didn't think the flavor was nearly as good as the chocolate cupcake, and if I want to make a brownie, I have delicious recipes for those... ;) So I'm not too heartbroken!
Now, if the other cupcakes that I can't find anywhere else (like the Classic Vanilla) turned out bad, then I'd be disappointed! :P

I made my first VCTOW cupcakes the other day! Behold the peanut butter cupcakes:
Instead of doing the chocolate ganache, I did the chocolate buttercream frosting because I already had all the ingredients. Then I topped them with chopped peanuts and a chocolate-covered peanut on top.
These were so delicious. The batter was absolutely divine. :) I think it's the molasses that does it.
