I am looking for a recipe for banana bread that does not have any added sugars. It is for a diabetic who has to watch what they eat. Can I just leave out the sugar in a recipe and it still be ok? ???
Thank you
How about using agave necter? I LOVE agave. It is sweet and thick like honey.
I found this:

And this:
http://www.ocregister.com/articles/agave-nectar-cup-2337894-until-butter
"for every cup of granulated sugar that is called for in a recipe, bakers should substitute 3/4 cup of agave nectar"
Agave is great for diabetics as it has a lower glycemic index and so gets absorbed slower. (It is the same stuff tequilla is made from, don't worry, no tequilla is in it though, agave nector is to tequilla as grapes are to wine)
Try the Lower Fat Banana Bread recipe in Veganomicon. My Mom, who is diabetic, bakes this often leaving out the 1/2 cup sugar, and adding an extra banana, a little unsweetened applesauce and a little more oil. It comes out moist and naturally sweet and is quite popular at her workplace. Raisins and walnuts are also good add-ins instead of chocolate chips.

Thanks! I will have to give it a try. :)

Thanks for the tips. I am going to get that recipe too.
... or you could sub the 1/2 cup sugar in the Veganomicon recipe for agave syrup, per SnowQueen69's suggestion. Thanks for those links. Very helpful
