What is this and how do i cook it?

Some one gave me a few of these...I'm sure they should be eated-ed...but I'm not sure how? Roast um? Soup um? Roast them then soup them??? I'm not even sure what they are called...the artist who took the above picture called them pumpkins...but they don't look like pumpkins, more like warty gourds (which is what I typed into google and found this resemblance) HELP!

Looks to me like an ornamental gourd. Feast your eyes on it, not your tummy (unless someone else has had culinary experience with it).

And yet two of the photographer's tags are "pumpkin" and "eating." But you don't want to cook it and then find out like Elijah (?) that "there is death in the pot."  :P

If you have an agricultural dept at your local university (assuming you have a university in striking distance), you might contact their Extension Service or take it in to the department and ask. I lived half an hour away from Iowa State, growing up, and they were always very helpful.

Yeah, I don't know if I'd trust the photographer's word... :P ;)
