your room of requirement?
So if you've never read Harry potter than you have no idea what I'm talking about. Basically- what would a room look like right now that had everything you need in it?
RIGHT NOW...I'd want a smallish room. with big windows...and it snowing outside. So that if you touch the glass its cold. But I won't be cold. There's a fireplace and it has a fire going. Its crackling. And It smells like apple cider. The only furniture in the room is a magical chair. Its a chair thats big enough for me to curl up like a fetal cat on the seat...but it kinda wraps around you like a hug at the same time...and theres a little end table next to the chair. It has some crackers and sheeze and veggies and hummus. I'll hardly notice it though. Because Ill be in the chair...sleeping or near sleeping like you feel after a good cry. There is no clock in my room of requirement. And the dogs won't burst through the door to get me all muddy. oh yeah...and theres a box of Kleenex.
:Dmy rom would have every single cd (from/by good artists, famous and local and etc) with a wonderful eco-friendly no use electricity stereo..haha i know whaaa. but it woul run on the power source of "love of music and noise"!! There would also be HUGE pillows scattered all over the floor that are just comfy and warm, safe feeling. There would be insense smelling of spices and fruits, a tea/coffee section, a section full of board games or head games like sodoku books (that ALWAYS change), scrabble, inside moves, crosswords, etc. A huge supply of art stuff, canvas, stretchers, acrylics, etc.
the room would be large with HUGE windows with a glaring cool sunlight, brightening the room but the view would be of autumn, so glorious clorful trees. The windows would have flowing sheets of silver/gold tipped sheer fabric...that when the wind blew they looked like they were dancing. one wall would be full of infinite books, sorted by authors and subjects....and it was always updated so new books came in...all the time!! In the room with me would be ...robbie :), we would watch Kig of the hill on one of the walls, do crosswords, sodoku, snuggle on my pillows and watch the curatins dance and then we'd watch the stars and snuggle more, discussing life and things that make life wonderful.
i would want the walls to always change color or scenery so even though i'm in a room, it would feel like i was in a natural environment!!! yeaahhh :D
Right now? There'd be a leetle table full of hUge bowls of yummy, satisfying food, like the cashew alfredo I just ate (for the first time).
A desk for making jewellery, with endless rainbows of beads, and room to make as much mess as I want without overflowing.
A turned-wooden-posted canopy bed with beautiful cloth hangings and a big soft mattress, for catnaps, and cats! A bed with infinite space for my lounging cats, and me, so they couldn't push me off like they usually do.
Big windows with wooden frames, perfectly framing the grand old deciduous trees in the garden outside, and on the windowsill, pen and paper and muse for me to use for poems.
Nighttime and the light at either ends, breathtaking sunsets and sunrises.
I dream of a "loft" type apartment...one large room, well divided by bookcases etc. but giving the impression of space. Hardwood floors with beautiful rugs that help define spaces. Kitchen along the back wall, plenty of room to work; stove against the wall but sink and counter on an "island". Bathroom separate of course, but a large bed in one corner (blocked off from view by those bookcases and some beautiful screens. Maybe another bed made to look like a divan in a corner of the "living room" space...I grew up with country folk who had a "dressed" bed in the living room that doubled as a guest room.
Top floor (no neighbours upstairs) so large skylights. Windows too, but I need skylights to see the sky, hear the rain. Maybe a patio type space on the roof with plants and a marquee for shade, table and chairs for drinks under the stars.
I would love to cook on an Aga but you might as well park a small car in your apartment...they weigh a tonne. And are always "on".
my room would come equipped with hanggliding gear, and it would be really huge and have a cushiony floor. There would be a place to jump off of to learn how to glide! And once I got the hang of that I owuld jump out the window. woohoo
So, you're right; I've never read Harry Potter and had no idea what you were talking about. When you explained it, it reminded my of a passage from one of my favorite books, Three Men in a Boat, to Say Nothing of the Dog by Jerome K. Jerome:
"Let your boat of life be light, packed with only what you need--a homely home and simple pleasures, one or two friends, worth the name, someone to love and someone to love you, a cat, a dog, and a pipe or two, enough to eat and enough to wear, and a little more than enough to drink; for thirst is a dangerous thing."
It would be a cabin in the mountains - at about 8,000 feet (about 2500 m). It would be a larger cabin, about 30 ft x 30 ft (9 m x 9 m).
Cool, refreshing spring water is in a hand-blown drinking glass, set on a wooden stand beside my ages old chair. A kettle on the woodstove is beginning to sing that hot water is ready for a cup of tea. The sky changing it's mind about how many clouds to send is visible through square pane windows and the air has the clean scent of pine tree after a light rain.
aww guys, these all make me smile...good job everyone... ::)
That's a good question, VHZ.
I can't say what my RoR would be like... what I want and need change so often. Right now, though... I'd be at a really good vegan B & B. I want pancakes but I don't feel like making 'em!
=D Great thread, I love Harry Potter....ummm, mine would be a fairly largish room, with tall dimly lit lamps, and vegan throw pillows on the floor. I would want to have a lot of music, so I could play whatever music I desired when I wanted to. I would want a laptop to have some sort of connection to the outside world, as well as connection to the internet, and so I could charge my iPod to listen to VeganFreak Radio. Umm, a rice cooker and small toaster oven to make yummy vegan food....a shelf with whatever books sound appealing....a yoga mat to do yoga and pilates....and John =D
but only kissing vegans, right? ;)
I would like a large glass room overlooking the ocean so that I could watch storms approaching and feel that I'm part of the thunder and lightening or a starry night. The glass would automatically darken in daylight and there would be gauzy curtains that I could close if I ever wanted privacy. Inside would be a soft bed that cushions me gently when I sleep. There would be a warm lagoon surrounded by beautiful tropical plants and a hidden hammoch. Healthy and delicious food/drink appear as if by magic when I'm hungry and thirsty and I would read to my heart's desire by a smokeless fire.
Mine would clean-up after me.
My Love aside, I would like it to have books! Every and any book possible. And Coffee! Music... but only what each individual listener wants to hear, no one else can hear your music. A window that you can look out of and see what you want, no one person seeing the same thing. Color changing walls, viewer dependant. The same with the floors... you want hardwood... you got it, marble... its yours... doesnt matter. I guess basically I want a room that makes everyone and anyone happy! :)
My room would stop time when you enter it. It would have loads of yummy, healthy, calorie-free/low-calorie food. It would also contain all the great books ever written, in both the future and past. It would contain all the video games and game consoles/computers that will ever exist. My room would also have the most comfortable bed ever...and because time would stop, I would be able to spend days, weeks perhaps, in the room...and then exit without having lost any time. (In a sense, it would allow me to eat, play & sleep without missing anything in the real world!)
Oh, and as I'll be in there for days at a time, eating tons of yummy food, I'll need a nice bathroom set-up in the room, too. :D
I love a picturous white marbulous kind of room with a veranda . It has to be on the top floor. And flowers must be all around the veranda. One side has to be big comfy bed, a tv, a bookcase, and the other part has to be my kitchen shiny looking cabinets. I also want booths and a table like how it is in a fast food restaurant. I know that sounds kind of silly but I kinda like that.
