What DVD are you watching lately?

I have BBC's Persuasion on, but I can't really get into. I've heard thought that BBC's Sense & Sensibility is good. Of course I"ve watched the Ang Lee Emma Thompson version which is superb... I may get it this week to see  :P

Just finished watching "Sybil" for the first time in years and I forgot how amazing Sally Field was in that role.  That pretty much catapulted her from being some silly TV actress to an award-winning, dramatic actress.  Very disturbing and yet touching movie.   I highly reccomend it if you haven't seen it yet.

I read that book it was pretty neat.

***potential spoiler alert***

I just saw the Kite Runner-- very bittersweet. I couldn't get over how the boy let his friend (servant's son- later finds out brother)  get totally beat up & sodomized by the older boys. He just runs away. I wanted to throw up. Argh. He does nothing until it's almost too late to do anything.
Gah  >:(

Yes, but I LOVE the actress who played her. My current favorite for sure! Also love Amy Adams, and Enchanted. Actually, I'm watching it (sort of) right now. :)

If you have access online to British TV movies (ITV), I can highly recommend "Lost in Austen." Time warp etc.

I love the line: "Okaaaay...Elisabeth Bennett just lent me her mobile."

I watched the rocker last night. Have to say I loved it... and having been in a band before could relate on many levels.

I watch Sweeney Todd religiously. I used to watch Across the Universe, like, every week. However, it's just not the same after you've listened to the Beatles a lot. (Yes, I was one of those people that just listened to the top 40 pop tunes on the radio and never ventured anywhere else. I was a little bit of a music n00b.)
I also really love Penelope; it's inspired me (not to sound cheesy) to live my life the way I want to, and the sexy Scottish stud James McAvoy is in it and I adore him.

I just finished watching Choke based on the novel by Chuck Palahniuk. It was really good. I love his stuff.

The original 1963 version of The Pink Panther, the first-ever Clouseau film, with a cast of great actors who are now, unfortunately, all dead (except maybe Robert Wagner, I'm not sure about him.) I use it in my English classes because the first 20 min are mostly action and I can pause it and ask questions and they get into it without being intimidated by a lot of talk, and it's funny. And they just came out with a remake of it with (cringe) Steve Martin. Sorry if there are any SM fans out there but I didn't think he was all that funny when I was 15 and he was the new guy. He will never, can never, be Peter Sellers.

And I always wonder: how can you hope to have a good remake of what was a resounding sucess when it first came out? I mean, anyone can improve on a disaster, but how can you hope to improve on something that worked perfectly the first time?

And why do we live in the Age of the Remake? Granted, we've taken the action film about as far as it can go, but what ever happened to scriptwriters? Don't they have original ideas anymore?
