This is HUGE! Oprah will be discussing food production, where our meat comes from. Alicia Silverstone will be on & will discuss her lifestyle. Also, Michael Pollan will be a guest-- we know what he's about! Tell everyone you know!!!! 4pm, ABC.
Too bad I can't DVR it from work.....
yea unfortunately i can't make it either...hopefully it will make it to YT. i have to work until balls-late tonight ugh.
Good for Oprah! Subtext, to BigAg meat industry: 'Wanna sue me again, a-holes?! Bring it! You'll just lose AGAIN...'
I'm also hopin it makes it to YT... only way I ever see any damn thing... Thanks for the heads-up!
noooo prob!! :)
Did anyone else watch it?
I'm pretty disappointed. It's good that people are being introduced to some new ideas, and maybe (??) thinking about things differently, but this show wasn't really about "what's inside meat, and why you shouldn't eat it," it was more about "what's inside meat, and why you should eat this other meat." You know, the whole sustainable thing. I've never been a huge fan of Alicia, but did she really need to talk about the times she slips up and eats cheese? Yes, let's help to spread the idea that it's IMPOSSIBLE to live without cheese." Meh. :X
The poop conversation was amusing. And I'm sure here recipes are good.

i did not get to watch it; i was hoping someone could let me know how it goes. aw man! ugh! she's sending mixed messages- oh its ok if you just eat cheese... dairy rape is occasionally alright.
what the fuck?! alicia eats cheese? that pisses me off.
i hope no vegans actually bought her book... and don't.
did oprah stay vegan or was that just for those 21 days or whatever she did?
no, she did not stay vegan. I'm so disappointed in Alicia. Geez.....I occasionally slip on the cheese? You'd think after 12 years she would have lost her taste for it by now.
I've only watched the first half so far. The rest is on tape to watch later. grrrrrr.
Yeah, she basically said she sometimes slips up and eats cheese ("not very often, though"), and usually when she's had some wine. I was like GROAN. EYE ROLL. How kind.
r u serious Alicia isn't vegan? what a poser she totally claims she is... i missed this i wish i could have seen this topic sooner!
Wow... what an a-hole. I'm not vegan, but I don't claim to be either. I really hope she doesn't make a profit off of actual vegans... that is crap.
yeah thats a big slap in the face of the whole vegan community. and its not like we get the spotlight a lot; primarily when PETA stages a demonstration or speaks out against something. so the one opportunity we have, and it gets compromised.
Andy recorded it for me - and while I don't really need to echo everyone else - how disappointing! I feel like they never actually got to the point of the show - I kept waiting for some revelation - but it never came. And ummm, Alicia, shut the fuck up. That was embarrassing.

this.
on a positive note, i'd like to think the bagillions of us V-dubbers on here do our parts on the individual level, to promote the fun, variety, and flavor of vegan foods; i know personally, i have had people at my office ask my recommendations when we go to lunch, or comment that they had a veg*n meal. my mom even fixed a portion of Christmas dinner vegan, and stated she uses SB only now and not butter. I made a couple of raw entrees and a dessert, and she not only enjoyed it, but encouraged me to make it more often when i'm home.
so, if we continue to do the little things that really count; then i really think it will help to offset the negative, hypocritical media attention.
I'm so glad to know that I wasn't the only one disappointed in Alicia's claim that she sometimes eats cheese. It completely shocked me! And Pollan is basically just spreading the message that as long as you eat grass fed meat, you're fine.
What upsets me most is that I seriously promoted this on my FB page, telling everyone to watch it, in hopes that my non-veg friends would watch it and could stop listening to my rants for a change. Well, they watched it, and what did they get out of it? "HE says you can still eat meat!" "Even Alicia has cheese once in a while!"
UGH.
You know, it really bothers me when celebrity "vegans" go out and muddy the waters. Like Ellen pimping CoverGirl cosmetics. She won't comment on the subject. Optimists say she's trying to change the company from the inside. Others just call her a hypocrite. I love Ellen, but right now what the world sees is a vegan using products that are made from and tested on animals.
And Olivia Wilde. She went on Ellen's show and said she was vegan. Then I pick up a magazine with her on the cover, and one of her favorite foods is a goat cheese pizza. And in another magazine, all of her recommended products were leather, suede, etc. I don't get it.
Now Alicia says slipping on cheese is okay? No wonder nobody takes veganism seriously.
On a personal level, although I DO eat and cook mostly vegan, I am very conscientious in telling people that I am a vegetarian. I don't want anybody getting the wrong idea. :(
Sorry for the tangent.

I became a fan of her fb page because she claims to be a macrobiotic vegan... it links to her website in the status updates and is constantly promoted this or that...her status updates feel like a commercial for whatever product...I am sure she is getting paid for the advertisement!
