It is a historic event tonight. For the first time, an African American will accept the nomination to run for president. How exciting is this?
SCREAM! Even if you don't support him, you can be happy that our country has passed such a milestone.
I know it's a milestone, but his gender and ethnicity aren't important to me and the environment is. I don't think he's cares much about the environment. He was on the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, but he has a spotty record and the examples he promotes of how environmentally involved he is are narrow in focus.
That may be true, but I would suppose that by default he would win the environmental vote, as McCain's stance on that is abysmal, if not nonexistent.
Though it really does matter to me that someone other than a white male is being nominated.
He does want to find more alternative energy sources, albeit because of our reliance on other countries for oil. But yet I understand that that is not the same.
I also would like him to care more about the environment, but I am gay, and to have someone like him who acknowledges me as a person, and who wants to advocate for me and my rights, all I can say is that it is priceless. He doesn't stand down on his support for gays, or women, or choice for women, or any minority. For the first time I feel as if I have personally addressed. He is all inclusive to all people. That inspires me.
I get so sappy watching the convention, I cried several times

I wanted to vote for Kucinich in the primary, but he dropped out before the primary in California. I voted for Gravel, instead. I don't think Kucinich's or Gravel's platform should be discounted just because they're white men.

Really? Cause as a Christian Barack Obama doesn't think you should be able to be married because marriage is between a man and a woman....

A lot of people think this way, Chiristian beliefs or not. And marriage laws are made by the state, not federal government, so even if he did try to pass some anti gay marriage federal law, it just wouldn't be federally recognized. If you plan to live in a state that legalizes gay marriages for the rest of your life, you wouldn't really have any issue.
And Obama seems much more gay friendly than McCain, so its the lesser of two evils and that's better than two candidates totally opposed to any gay union rights.

It's true, Obama does not support gay marriage. He supports civil unions. But, Obama is for the right of the state to decide about gay marriage. He also opposed the ban on gay marriage in California. I looked it up, and he scored an 89 out of 100 with the Human Rights Campaign based on his stance on a wide range of issues pertaining to gay rights. He's not ideal, but he's probably the best we have right now who an feasibly be elected.

You need to create a profile.
I'm really having a hard time getting excited for either of the candidates. I'm definitely going to vote but I'm not looking forward to it. I'm just apathetic...

I was sort of apathetic at first (though I would never NOT vote), but now I am getting really excited about Obama. I think he has so much promise & has such amazing ideas--PLUS, the thought of McCain being president seriously scares the absolute shit out of me. I understand if neither candidate fits your (the general "your," not you specifically, icephrosty) ideals 100%, but I don't think this is an election anyone can afford to be apathetic about.
