this is my first post in a long time. nice to have internet back it is nice to be back on vegweb again. i missed the ideas and people this place has. helps keep me sane(kinda) well better then i do my self
any way i read this article and am a little concerned about what it has to say http://www.cbc.ca/news/background/nature/
i hear that all the wireless technology is screwing with bees now there is a virus too not good
Albert Einstein once said that if the bees disappeared, "man would have only four years of life left".
i can find out if he actually said this or not. but who ever said this has a very good point . humans need bees they are a huge part of the food world
It's nice to be back
I'm not sure how Albert Einstein arrived at his conclusion that "man would have only four years of life left" if bees were to disappear all together, but it is without any doubt that the entire food chain would be disrupted. Recently, I read that the use of cell phones, and its radiation may not be the primary contributors to their diappearence. Does anyone remember reading about that?
I LOVE YOUR AVATAR!!!! :)
Im quite confident the "cellphone excuse" is just a theory made up to divert people from the real explanation. Bees are just being overworked/undernurished/maltreated like any other factor farmed organism.

This thread provided a great link.

the other articles are very interesting and well written thanks
Welcome back!
So very sad and scary how we are destroying our world along with ourselves. :'(
"They" don't really know what is the cause of bees dispearing but it's probably got something to do with people ::) , maybe pesticides?
Not cell phones though, thank goodness.
there have been many theories about what is causing this... cell phones, pesticides,
GM foods, hybridized bees (we did that), and encroachment of diff bees into new territories.
it seems the cell phone theory has been debunked...but who knows?
where i am from, New England, there isnt the same die off. yet.
I just read this article on the subject a few days ago in the NY Times. They are now leaning towards a virus as the "killer" of the bees. It states they are not 100% sure...but there are many signs pointing in that direction.
Here's the article:
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/09/07/science/07bees.html
The one thing in common with all these theories is that there is one source of destruction - homo sapiens.
I don't understand why people can't make the leap from "hey, look at us utilizing all these bees for honey and agriculture" to "hey, maybe we're the ones killing them."
It's not that hard of a leap, lol. Especially if one compares this to small, local, organic honeybee keepers or those who do it for a hobby, for themselves, etc. ... there is no decline in those bee populations.
Obviously, in the other industry something must be going on to affect the bees. It's humans! ;)
Outside of the industry, in the natural environment, I'm sure the encroachment of civilization doesn't help. Neither do pesticides or all the other crap pumped into soil, and therefore eaten by the flowers.
get out your qtips---we better be ready to polonize out own flowers!!! ;D
