MoveOn
A little while ago I picked up a book called "50 Ways to Love Your Country" I'm not even half way through it, but it has been a godsend so far. For so long I have hated the news, especially the cable "news" mostly because its not news, mostly old white dudes (no offense) telling their opinion of things instead of saying what happened in the world today. Also the sensationalized stories and only reporting things that would be controversial and get higher ratings didn't make me want to tune in.
I strongly urge everyone to get a hold of a copy from the library and check out the website: http://www.moveon.org/ I fully plan on being very politically active, including voting for the first time(!) and using my rights as a citizen of the United States. I am so much more aware and empowered now.
So, enough with my little rave, what do you guys think about the state of the country and the giant corporation media outlets controlly what to report?
Do you think anything can make us less celebrity focused and more (for lack of a better word) sane?
Do you want me to stop asking questions?
A few years ago I was very involved with MoveOn. Recently, however, the only time I ever hear about something they're doing is through emails asking for money.
I'm glad you're getting politically active! It's always been something I've been involved in (always on the losing side...) Anyways, hope you stick with it! I find the best thing to do is to make the individual changes in your life and not sweat the big stuff. If the cable news annoys/upsets you then don't watch it. If we all did that then there would be no more cable news. Also, keep up with what is going on and write your elected officials and tell them how you feel.
I too have had an epiphany of sorts this political year and for the first time since I turned 18 (many moon ago) I am excited about politics and have found reason to be proud to be an American. I am so grateful that a candidate rose up that piques my interest and speaks to me as an American. Barack Obama is that candidate. He has me out campaigning and has me reading all I can about the world of politics.
I personally don't watch the news. I read blogs and things such as CNN.com. I hate network news and their bias, and I despise FOX news with a passion.
