kucinich food poisoning

Every news story I heard about Kucinich's hospitalization for food poisoning mentioned he's a vegan. This made me wonder if this was a coincidence, so I Googled it. Sure enough over 50% mentioned it. One blogger went so far as to say, "He should start eating like a man...I'll bet he starts feeling better then."
Typical

Peace and a happy tummy Congressman (President) Kucinich!!! :)

I'm not in the States so I don't know the story...but I bet he got it when eating out and someone lied and gave him something with egg or milk in it...and perhaps not a fresh egg... ::)

How can a vegan get food poisoning? That's very rare I think.

Whatever he ate, it was probably contaminated by animal proximity. Remember the spinach scare.? I heard it was contaminated by runoff from factory farming.

Yeah, vegan food (especially raw foods) can easily be contaminated if food handlers don't wash their hands after handling meat, preparation surfaces aren't clean, etc.

I guess Kucinich's wife held a vegan dinner fundraiser in Phoenix a while back to earn money for his campaign.

badly stored rice can give you a really nasty case of food posioning.

food standards agency uk says:

Quote:
Uncooked rice can contain spores of Bacillus cereus, bacteria that can cause food poisoning. When the rice is cooked, the spores can survive. Then, if the rice is left standing at room temperature, the spores will germinate into bacteria. These bacteria will multiply and may produce toxins (poisons) that cause vomiting or diarrhoea. Reheating the rice won't get rid of these toxins.

So, the longer cooked rice is left at room temperature, the more likely it is that bacteria, or the toxins they produce, could stop the rice being safe to eat.

It's best to serve rice when it has just been cooked. If that isn't possible, cool the rice as quickly as possible (ideally within one hour) and keep it in the fridge for no more than one day until reheating.

and there's always the problem that someone with dodgy germs can contaminate your dinner by not washing their hands properly before preparing/handling it.
