It's the start of Dove hunting season! Hurray!

I was so glad to just read that it's now officially Dove hunting season here!!!!!

Also glad to know that the State of GA's DNR sponsors hunts. I really love that my tax dollars go for that...WTF????!!!!!  >:(

Hunting is a great thing to do with the kids. It's fine family fun and entertainment. Too bad my dad never taught me to kill for fun and sport....now I think I know what was missing from my youth!  :-\ (as well as dead animal heads all over our house...missed that as well)... :-\

great quotes:

"Rick Burge of Alpharetta took the opportunity to teach his 11-year-old son Michael. It was their first time at the quota hunt. Burge, who grew up in Indiana and remembers hunting with his father, says hunting teaches patience, discipline and love of the outdoors."

"Teaches patience, discipline and love of the outdoors"!?....learning to kill things?!?!?  >:(

Since GA ranked #46 in the nation on the most recent SAT scores....maybe instead of teaching the fine art/sport of murder,  parents should teach their kids how to read, write, and count.... :P

"Teaches patience, discipline and love of the outdoors"!?

So does rock climbing or rafting and nothing has to die!

Amen!

Michigan recently started to allow dove hunting--how retarded is it to hunt doves? What on earth do you do with a dead dove? It's so appauling--"hey everyone, lets all go out and kill some tiny little song bird that in no way hurts our environment" sounds great to me *grrrr*
People suck!

The animals are fighting back!

Come on...if it weren't for those brave hunters, Georgia and Michigan would soon be overrun with flocks of vicious, blood-thirsty, doves.  :o
Those guys are modern day dragon-slayers and we all owe them a debt of gratitude.  I, for one, have never been attacked by a dove...why do you think that is?! :D

Wow Davedrum that's really sad. I'm still trying to find the correlation between the love for the outdoors and murdering innocent creatures  :(

"says hunting teaches patience, discipline and love of the outdoors."

So does Boy Scouts, and then he gets ethics, teamwork, and community service all at the same time too.

My little cousin (my cousin's son) was taken hunting with his granddad when he was 7-8, and he didn't understand completely what happened until he killed a rabbit, and he was crying the rest of the afternoon from guilt. He doesn't go anymore, told me he didn't like it. <3 Good boy Kyle.

Does anyone else see the irony in this: United States allows hunting of the symbol of peace... >:(

There is good news in our midst- I read an article yesterday that said the number of hunters and fishers have DECREASED and have steadily done so over the past few years, while sports like hiking and birdwatching have gone up. Yes folks, you can enjoy nature without killing it off! But the article was saying that it means decreased revenue for the fish/wildlife services and land preservation. I think, though, that they can find new ways to raise money other than reliance on a cruel sport.
