Too bad it's considered "biomedical waste"... I mean, we can fuel cars with used grease/fryer oil... which probably is the reason for the fat anyway... ???

That's awesome! I mean, probably pretty inefficient in the long run, considering all the energy it took to make that fat, but better to use it than let it go to waste. It's kind of funny it has to specifically be against the law to use medical waste for fuel.
OK! Seriously--I have been saying this for years--that we should have lipo clinics where people can have their excess fat removed and then that fat can be used/turned into fuel! People keep telling me that is stupid and wouldn't work and that it would take too much to refine the fat, blah, blah, blah, well, it sounds like this guy figured out how to do it pretty easily!
I am very pro-using human fat for fuel! I would prefer that people burned their own fat powering bikes, etc., but if people keep insisiting on driving cars, etc., we might as well at least use our own fat instead of raping the world for oil! Obviously this is not a long term sustainable alternative and could pose risks--but, I'm still for the investigational/use of human fat!!
I will happily donate 10lbs to the cause too ;)b

It probably goes without saying that if this were a viable option, people would probably start binging in unprecedented quantities--they would probably figure--what's the dif? If I get fat it will just be sucked out, lets eat more, more, MORE! Maybe they could make some rules, like you could only have up to "X" # of lbs taken out a year or something along those lines to discourage binging, etc.,

Yeah, that would be the downside--all the resources wasted to make all the food people would binge on :(

But...maybe not everyone would want to, plus it's expensive, right? It also leaves scars, so even though I wouldn't have any moral problems with it, not sure I'd want a huge scar across my stomach...
The site said Dr. Craig Alan Bittner turned the fat into biodiesel, which is more commonly made from vegetable oils, though analysts said about half of the U.S. supply comes from beef or pig byproducts.
I didn't know this. I'm trying to decide whether I want to say more about it (i.e., cursing for biodiesel not being vegan) on the debate thread or if I don't. You might see this come up later if I work up some ambition.
