British scientists develop non-stick chewing gum

Just read this (it kind of goes along with the processed junk thread).....

WTF?! I thought the people that make food (even gum) are called chefs....not SCIENTISTS!

"The new gum, the result of polymer research at the University of Bristol, could be launched commercially in 2008, its backers said on Friday."
-Polymer research?!?!?!?  :o

Friggin' Franken-Gum! :P

ha ha. gross.

and, i'm not trying to be argumentative BUT most everyone who does 'product development' has a background in food science, not cooking.

true. but a lot of the "food development" people are creating foods you prob don't want to eat anyways, for the most part. there are sketchy things being done to whole foods (GMOs anyone?)

Not sure if you saw the news yesterday about "scientists" that are now messing with fish from one species to allow them to be born to another. EVERYTIME they do something like this, not only does it ruin the environment, but health concerns will surly become an issue when people spend 20 or more years (or less) eating these franken foods. What happens when these "bionic" fish start to mingle and mate with the "regular" fish?!

Here's the article:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070914/ap_on_sc/trout_from_salmon;_ylt=Ahv.grrJOvxIor2fkMybkTMPLBIF

Quote:"The Japanese researchers' ultimate goal: Boost the rapidly dwindling population of bluefin tuna, a species prized in a country famed for its tuna appetite"

How about this......stop overfishing and polluting the waters and the fish will survive on their own!  :o

i agree. i was just stating that they definitely aren't 'cooks' when it comes to processed foods.

ugh, yeah. don't they realize that for millions of years people lived happily (and everything else did, too  ::)) without totally purging their environments?
