Yeah, won't be too hard! I sent a contact us email with my disgust and plea to not go through with it, if there's still any question.

That sucks, i just bought my first product from them last week. good thing i just bought it in a pinch, and can easily avoid it in the future.

Just saw this in the comments of the blog, thought it made a good point:

"Also,
after further research I found that it appears $25 million dollar charitable
gift was from the founders Bob and Charlie themselves, who no longer own
the company. They gave ownership of Bob's Red Mill to the employees
last year."

I remember the party they threw last year. These guys are now retired, separate from the company and don't make decisions for BRM anymore.

Dean of OHSU School of Medicine:

Quote:
The institute will focus on education and outreach programs, clinical nutrition research and human investigations. The use of funds from the Moores’ gift will be limited exclusively to activities related to:

Recruitment of the institute’s leader
Efforts to examine existing research to identify what is most relevant to human nutritional health
Human, epidemiological, clinical trials and similar types of human research studies to determine how best to move important knowledge into clinical practices and into the everyday lives of people, and
Efforts to teach others to use available knowledge to guide personal decision-making and inform sound public policies.

That seems like a bit of code words in there. Not sure what all they meant by that.

I did not like the way the blog post was written, generally. I thought it was hasty and accusatory and I am the king of hasty and accusatory. So I emailed Bob's almost 2 weeks ago asking for clarifications, and reasonable assurance animals would not be harmed. I mean the 25 million could go to build better facilities, improve the facility's conditions, advance/alternative research not requiring animals, ie not not necessarily animal torture. BUT I have yet to get a response from them.

One of the most suprising things in all this is that what seems like a cutesy Mom and Pop type niche like Bob's has 25 million clams to burn!! Really?! Well I guess those 8 oz bags of baking soda for $7 have a "healthy" margin...... BTW: the "No Aluminum" baking soda is just an advertising gimmick. Arm and Hammer does not have aluminum either and that are $1 /lb.

lol yeah about that baking soda. i've never seen baking soda with aluminum. it's baking powder that has it sometimes.

it's the same thing as seeing GF of a bag of produce, or 100% juice, it ups their cost margin.

or "fat free" on licorice and other concentrated sugar candy

I saw this article a week or so ago.  I don't buy BRM already because it's expensive while only being "natural" (which doesn't mean anything).

eta:  I'd be pissed if the owners sold the company and then inspired a national outrage for and potential boycott of the brand.  I think that if I did buy BRM, I wouldn't stop.  Blogs like The Informed Vegan libel the company ("The grain seller is donating $25 million to the Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU), an institution responsible for extensive animal testing").  The grain seller isn't donating anything, the previous owners are making the donation.

that's true, it does seem like libel.

I get BRM for stuff i can't find elsewhere, like chickpea flour. Pretty much only chickpea flour, actually.

I take it all of you are volunteering to be human test subjects at a price that is lower than testing on animals...

How about some whole-body transplant experiments, which could someday save millions of lives - anyone wanna be the first to try that without testing it on other monkeys?  ???

Wow, such brilliant and scientific terms. As soon as you wanna buy that bridge in Brooklyn, Trusty Rusty, please let me know.

But, I volunteer you for the human testing, "experimental" vegan. How can I do that? Why would I do that? Well, I am a speciesist and you look expendable for the greater good...in many ways. Well, the potential greater good, someday....

Off topic, but can you no longer block individual members anymore?  That's a shame.

You can get nearly all of Bob's kind of product in bulk (TVP, vital wheat gluten, etc), a hell of a lot cheaper.  Holy shit his oatmeal is expensive.
