Weekly Giveaway: Lavender Hand Wash! Saskia is the winner!

Okay, I know that "the holidays" are technically in November and December but jeez, it seems like they're just not stopping right now either. Superbowl, Chinese New Year, Valentine's Day, Presidents Day, WHEN WILL IT END? Can we please call a moratorium on things to celebrate until April? Oh wait, when is St. Patrick's Day? Le sigh. If all this holiday stress is getting you down, perhaps you need to surround yourself with lavender. Lavender helps relax you and eases tension. Even though Lavender Hand Wash by Desert Essence Organics (http://www.desertessence.com/skin-care/lavender-hand-wash-relax}  is only for washing hands, you'd be surprised how calming it can be. With this stuff in the house, you'll want to wash your hands every ten minutes. Just be careful it doesn't turn into an OCD thing because that is NOT relaxings.

To enter to win a bottle, let me know what your favorite way to relax is.

Giveaway ends on Tuesday, February 23rd at midnight, PST! Winner will be chosen at random!

Good luck!

I go to a lodge in Brooksville, FL on Mary Spirit Wind's property.  I participate with other lodge members.  We are of varying tribal affiliations. The ceremonies follow the Lakota tradition, though there are sometimes visiting elders that conduct ceremony in other traditions.  It's a truly amazing experience every time.

Very neat. Thanks for sharing. I would love to have the opportunity to participate in a traditional sweat loadge ceremony someday, but I've been all too weary of the "new-agey" sounding knock-offs I've occasionally heard about in my area. Not too long ago there was even a story in the news about a few individuals who actually died of dehydration in a sweat lodge led by a group that had been accused of being a cult. Definitely not relaxation!

Yes, we are sometimes approached by the new-agers but learned the hard way to say no.  Mary is a sweetheart and allowed a Buddhist to participate once and the woman started chanting in Hindi in the lodge and then singing Hindi songs.  No offense to the woman or her spirituality, but Lakota sweat lodge is not the place to try and blend traditions and we did explain the flow of the ceremony to her and her part in it before she went in.  It was quite frustrating.  I hope you get the opportunity someday, you'll feel absolutely amazing when you come out.

You can be invited to join groups, but keep in mind you probably won't be invited if you start a conversation with, "I love everything about your culture."  When I worked in the Indian Cultural Museum in Yosemite, the new age middle-aged women would come in and gush with no understanding of the history or significance of anything.  Most of us vacated the area and let whomever was cornered deal with the person.

I like to relax by taking a walk.  Or playing guitar.

Yea, I think all too often individuals get all too mesmerized with "exotic" cultures unfamiliar to them and their motivations almost appear voyeuristic. I don't think I would feel comfortable requesting to participate in a ceremony, unless maybe I had a close personal relationship with one of the members. If I was invited, I would feel differently. Maybe someday the chance will come along, but I suppose there are plently of traditions and rituals within my own culture to utilize in the mean time. No need to go searching for peace of mind in the houses of others when there is so much available in my own backyard. This thread is evidence for that!

My favorite way to relax is either to draw and paint when I am by myself or enjoy a glass of wine with my sweetie and watch a good sit-com on t.v.

Relaxing for me goes right along with drinking some catnip tea then curling up with my husband in bed and getting that "deep tissue massage" that we both like so much.   ;D

aren't significant others that can do a good massage the best? My boyfriend has been rock climbing more, thus gaining more hand strength. Yay!
