Roll Call!
Edit. The following intro is a bit old. I unfortunately ended my long term relationship after nearly ten years. Just couldn't be worked out. I got the house and the dogs and am relatively happy now. I finished my online RN to BSN program and am a genuine college graduate at the age of 48!!! Woot!
Edit #2 - I finally reached the ripe old age of 50 and am feeling fabulous! I always get the "you don't look 50" thing, and I attribute that to a healthy diet and lifestyle.
I deleted my Myspace page. I do have Facebook and love to have vegwebbers for friends. You can private message me and I'll give you my name. Or you can find me on the vegweb fan page.
Edit #3 - Finally went vegan. The last couple of years, I've been slowly getting there, replacing household and personal products with vegan items such as vegan soaps, candles, cleaners. I've bought vegan shoes, belts and wallets. I'm loving it! Decided to let my hair go naturally grey instead of coloring it so I don't get the "you don't look 50" thing as much anymore. LOL I now have a desk job in the admit-transfer center and hate it hate it hate. I just can't be stuck behind a desk, and I'm the lookout for something else.
Edit #4 - Found a position at the hospital I currnetly work on an ortho floor. I think I'll like returning to the bedside and not a desk job. w00t
It's been a while and I thought it might be nice to for everyone who posts here to tell a little about yourself. I took a little sabbatical from this site (went back to eating meat for two years..........bleech), but lurked from time to time, but have been a part of this site for gee, can it be 8 or more years???? But I don't know a lot of you.
I am a nurse. I am a male. (yes, a person who will remain nameless called me a "she".) I am gay. I've been in a monogamous relationship for the last nine years with a great guy who now travels a lot. I was an ovo-lacto veg*n for about 12 years before slipping, I plead insanity.
I'm currently in an online program to go from an ADN RN to BSN RN and hope to finally graduate from college at the age of 48 next year.
I have a very boring blog here: http://allnurses.com/forums/journal.php?do=showjournal&j=13
You're turn. Tell me your business!
Havenolegs... I have no craving for chicken, but batter-fried chunks of potato sound so deliciously bad!
Hey vegwebbers. :) I've been coming here every now & then for at least a few years, but I just decided to become a member a few weeks ago. Then I got a couple wave hello's the other day (sorry I didn't wave back!), so I thought I'd check out the boards. Uh, I'm really bad at these intro things...I'm 30, and have lived in upstate NY for most of my life, with the exception of a few years spent in Texas as a kid. I've been vegetarian for 15 years (anniversary this week...or next...don't know the exact date, but it was around Thanksgiving. It's still unbelievable to me that I've been veg for half my life...makes me feel so old.), and vegan since June of 2000. However, I've been going through some, let's just say "stuff", lately, and slipped back into ovo-lacto for a couple months, but not even good, healthy o-l...I was eating a lot of garbage...junk food veg'n, basically. Ugh, and I gained about ten pounds with nothing to show for it except a bunch of ill-fitting pants. :P So, I'm trying to get back on track now. Errr...if anyone wants to know anything else about me, just ask. I really do hate these intro things. heh.
Welcome Semi-sane! You'll find plenty of support and loads of wonderful people here on vegweb. Glad you joined us!
your kitty is a cutie, semi-sane!

I agree with hespedal on this one. Your kitty is adorable. Looks exactly like a cat, Murray, we had when i was growing up so you could say I'm biased!
Anyway, welcome.
welcome carrie! im glad you decided to quit meat again! i wish ya good luck with that. can i make a suggestion? this helped a friend of mine. she really liked chicken too, but found that it was hard to quit eating it, and "fake" chicken made it harder because she said it still looked the same and still encouraged the idea that chickens are "food". so we wrote a list of all the things she liked about it. "salty" "crunchy" "greasy" etc. and came up with a vegetarian replacement. she found that batter-fried chunks of potatoes were the perfect thing for her craving :) maybe this help you find something similar!
doh. It's been awhile since I checked this thread~ :-[
Thanks for the welcome everybody!!
havenolegs, first, I love your name!
Re: my relapse...as pathetic as this sounds, I don't even think it was the chicken that got me, but that darn texas pete hot sauce or whatever it was. "Buffalo" sauce, maybe?
Anyway, thanks very much for your kind suggestion.
I've found myself recently addicted to the Ultimate Vegetarian Chili recipe here.
It's spicy enough to satisfy that craving, and NOBODY guesses it's vegan!
Ha! I love it!!!
Warm welcomes to Mama2veggie & semi-sane as well!!
Hiya all you new vegwebbers! Carrie, love the name--you can come sit by me :)
Ok, I thought it was about time that I should visit this thread.
Hi, I'm Gratefulbeauty... as I'm sure many have noticed, it's a combo of one of the greatest bands ever's name and one of their albums titles, not a haughty description of myself. I think every one is beautiful.
I never really liked meat as a kid. In highschool I cut out all meat except the occasional fish and chicken. Then right after graduation I cut chicken out entirely and still ate a bit of fish now and then. Now almost a decade later I haven't had fish for months, and don't plan on going back. I met my husband a few years back, he's a veggie too, and it was basically love at first sight. With the birth of my son, I now have a new challenge of cooking delicious veg*n meals that a toddler will eat. Toddlers can be so picky! He really enjoys dipping things, so any good mild dip recipes are welcome to throw my way. If any of you have a little one, I found that the book "New Vegetarian Baby" has been one of the best guides I've found for making sure my son gets proper nutrition, and it was very helpful for my nutrition too.
As I mention in my profile the greatest nutrition book I have ever read is "Diet for a Small Planet" by Frances Moore Lappe, but look for the updated version "Hope's Edge". I really am interested if any one else has ever read this book. It was so eye opening to how the whole food system works in the world, especially the U.S. When I read it it was like every jumbled philisophy I have for not eating meat, had been laid out in a comprehensible form that I could finally understand. She wrote her first book DfaSP when she was my age, with no special education or previous writing experience. I recently met Frances, and she is every bit as amazing and inspiring in person as her books portray her to be.
I'm glad to be here, and to meet so many fellow veg*ns.

Hi everyone! My name's Erica, and I live in Southern California (soon to be Northern California, but I'll get to that later.) I've been a vegetarian for about 11 years. I've been lurking on this site for awhile now, and I thought it was a great time to get involved. I'm just a veggie, not vegan, but I do tons and tons of vegan baking/cooking. I'm addicted to baking, I'm not gonna lie. I'm an EMT, and I'll be going to nursing school soon. I love anything and everything relating to the medical field (I am, by far, the biggest medical nerd you'll ever meet. I swear!!) That's probably enough for now. But I have wanted to say this for awhile, and now seems like a great time to do it. I found this wonderful site through myspace. I was (and still am) amazed that everyone on here is so nice to people who are just vegetarians. On myspace, if a newbie asked a question about fish, or called themselves a veggie, yet mentioned that they still eat fish occasionally, Oh My Life! Madness would quickly follow. They're very obsessed w/ labels. People are downright mean on there, and they say absolutely horrible things. Even though things on here have been a bit heated lately, for the most part, everyone seems really excited to educate/teach/encourage people just starting out, and I cannot tell you how happy that makes me. See ya around...

Northern California or the North Coast? I'm still homesick for Humboldt, so I have to ask.
Hi, pinkerbell!!
Funny you mention that HH, I'm moving to Humboldt! I've never been there, but I'm going to nursing school at College of the Redwoods, and my boyfriend just got accepted to HSU. I'm getting excited and kinda scared at the same time. No idea what parts of the city are good to live in, no idea where the good HFS's are, kinda nerve-wracking! If you have any helpful hints, send em on my way please!! :)
Hey all,
My name is Yuliya. I am 27 years old. I am originally from Russia. I live in the US now. I became vegan almost a year ago after reading "Skinny Bitch" by Kim Barnouin,Rory Freedman. I am sure you guys know about this book. If you don't I highly recommend it. I read the book in 1 day and became vegan that same day. I wish I new about this site then! I love it! I've been lurking the vegweb for a few months now and recently decided that it is about time the vegweb world finds out a little about me. I am married to a total carnivore; I swear that man only its meat! :o OK... I am exaggerating a little :D But he is steak wrapped in bacon kind of guy... I am working on educating him about all the horrors of meat and everything it has to do with. He is very supportive of my lifestyle though. I have a minpin, who's name is Kira. She is sooooo cute and soooo spoiled. One of these days I'll post her picture.
It is really great to be a part of this community! I've learned a lot of things by reading posts from all of the vegwebbers! And don't get me started on recipes here! Simply great!
Love,
Yuliya
Welcome Yuliya!!

Hey Carrie! Sorry I was so tardy in that greeting. Thanks for the warm welcome...
Hey VegWebsters, I'm Emily. I'm turning twenty tomorrow. I had another username on this site "brownknee" but deleted when I went through a popular phase of mine of not wanting anything to do with the good ol' world wide web. Anyway, I'm back with little to offer other than a real silly hXc username. I'm currently living in New York, bouncing back between Middletown and Cornwall. Earlier this month I was supposed to fly out to Olympia, Washington to "start fresh" but that idea has been postponed. I'm really itching to travel ANYWHERE but I'm falling short of ideas so help me out and give me some!
