New Vegan

Hi, I've been vegan for about 2 months now. I just kind of switched over night from eating meat to this and I am loving it, but I don't know anyone who is even vegetarian, let alone vegan. Any advice/suggestions? Thanks!
Hi! I just suddenly switched overnight too, and I also don't know a single vegan or vegetarian in my area (I do have one vegan friend who lives very far away). I found that VegWeb helped a lot! I don't even post a ton, but I'm always reading what everyone else is talking about. I think it's important to feel like you're part of a community, especially when non-veg people can be unsupportive or unhelpful (whether on purpose or when they're just trying to be nice). I also found that it's important for me to make food that I looooove so I don't get bored. I don't think I'd ever go back to non-veg, but I definitely slip back into my old junk food habits, which is a total waste of how amazingly healthy I feel when I'm eating good vegan food. :)
Please feel free to send me a message any time, I would love to talk about being vegan, vegan food, anything at all! I think that just connecting with other vegans is the most important thing, and I'd love to chat. And just being around the message boards, whether lurking or posting, is super helpful.
Welcome ktwi827! Good for you on switching to vegan!
My advice is to eat mostly whole foods. The overnight switch may make any vegan subsitutes seem, well, odd or gross. Read every label and should mistakes happen dont beat yourself up. Just learn from it and move on.
Welcome and good luck!
welcome!! my advice is to always have food handy. if you get hungry, you get discouraged.
also, don't listen to ignorant omnis. they might mean well, but they just don't know. :D
Hi! Welcome!
Fact which I've reluctantly accepted about human mammals: most of them are wrong about a whole lot of stuff, a whole lot of the time. Don't let it getcha down! You're not alone... just a minority.
Power, sister!
:-)
welcome, glad your here
Nice to meet you.
Vegans are a small minority and it's hard to meet them out in the mainstream, which is why this site is so vital to me. It would be so much harder alone.
I know only one vegan in real life, and it's someone I met on here first.
Congratulations on making the change! I agree with the others who say how important forums are...there just aren't enough of us out there, so online stuff is essential.
Don't be afraid to try new things like tofu, tempeh, seitan. And if you dont' like it one way, try another completely different way.
Oh, and cheese? If you liked cheese a lot before going vegan, you might want to wait a while before trying vegan cheese.
Yay! Congrats on becoming vegan! We're the best so you're amongst pretty awesome company. If you ever need a friend to talk to about it, just head to our forums, there are so many people to support you in your veganism. And if you need something to eat, well look no further than our 13,000 plus recipes!
Oh, and you can always email me too :)
Congrats again and I look forward to seeing you around VegWeb!
Congratulations on your new diet and lifestyle. I can relate to you, many family members and friends thought I lost my mind I first told them I was going vegan. Now at almost every event or get together I have special dishes just for me. Some crack jokes about what I don't eat but it doesn't phase me. Like the vegan hippie stated, don't be discouraged by ignorant omnivores. It's like this is the matrix and all of the meat and animal product eaters are still plugged into the matrix, completely unaware of what's really going on, bathing in their tub of ignorance in pure bliss. If you are like Neo the one, you can not let the opinions of omnis influence you or your diet in anyway. If this was the matrix then I guess the meat and dairy industries are the agent smiths, lol.
