Hey I'm new here...I'm a former vegan, now vegetarian who is in college and thinking about making the transition back to veganism. I'm looking for some tips on how to deal with friends and a roommate who all eat meat. Anybody have to deal with the same type of stuff and have any tips? I'm been veg for almost 5 years, and most of my friends don't try to get me to eat meat, but veganism would be a tough transition with these kids. Thanks in advance!
Welcome to Vegweb! I dont think going back to veganism would be that hard. I'm the only vegan living here (with family though) and i make do fine. What are you worried about with your roomates? Is it having animal products in the house, or the idea of it, or what?
1.) Get really awesome at baking/cooking delicious vegan foods
2.) Make delicious vegan foods
3.) Serve to friends
4.) WIN!
For me, the easiest way to go about it is the above.
I don't talk about it a lot unless someone asks me and if something is said in a way that is like..argument starting, I ignore it. I'm not too picky about stuff like using the same pans to cook meat and vegan stuff, and I avoid being a preachy vegan, so I get along fine with my roommates and they really like when I make cookies and stuff (:
I have an omni roomie, and we just..eat our own stuff. She doesn't dig my beans and I don't dig her meat.
Hello, and welcome!
Honestly, the less of a big deal you make about your diet, the less of a deal others will probably make of it. IT's just what you eat.
That said, expect some good natured-ribbing, but kindly let them know if it crosses a line.
Just do what you've got to do. Everyone else will deal.

This approach has worked for me, too.
