Hi...finally
Hi Everyone. I joined Vegweb last year on May 15, and decided it was time to introduce myself! I got a nice message from secondbase and realized I've been rude to be here without interacting. I'd like to think it makes me mysterious, but maybe it just comes off ... creepy? :smooth:
Anyway, my name is Rebecca and I would classify myself as a strict vegetarian. My diet is technically vegan, but my lifestyle is not. Confusing? The best way I can explain it is that my fiance and our two children (12 and 4) are not vegetarian and I still unfortunately support the dairy and meat industries with their purchases. Sigh. The way I've come to look at it is that it's my journey and they're welcome to come for the ride when they're ready.
I'm not particularly social, which is why I haven't posted before, but in a quest for self-betterment I'm making more of an effort lately. I live in Ottawa, Ontario which is a fairly veg-friendly place. There are a few restaurants that I can "safely" order in, and there's a great VegFest coming up at the end of the month. Exciting!
What else can I say? I go to work at an extremely, obscenely early hour, I LOVE to read, I've caught the crochet bug and I'm a loyal contributor to a food diary / journal which has helped me organize my thoughts and I think was the catalyst to cut dairy and eggs from my diet. I've also completely cut out pop and juice - epic for me. (I used to drink whole containers of apple juice at a time!) Water is amazing! I'm so sorry I missed out on it's goodness for so long.
That's it for now. Thanks for having a place like this to come to! I'm looking forward to meeting everyone!
Rebecca
P.S. Most people want to know where yahacana came from. When I was 12 I had a best friend and we made up a word: yahamitchicanananawhatshoumecallityaha. Obviously we were so COOL. When I first got internet way back when every screen name was taken. I was literally sweating over the keyboard trying to set up an e-mail account. I'm sure I cackled evilly while saying "Reject this" and threw out that rough interpretation of our word. It worked and has been my username for everything ever since. It hasn't let me down yet and I consider it a homage to a great friendship.
Hi! So glad you came into the light and let us meet you!
Your strict vegetarian title is not confusing at all--actually, your description says a lot. Thanks for being so honest about yourself and your journey. Hope to see you on the forums soon. We won't bite!
Welcome!! :)
You call yourself whatever you choose, but personally I would say you're vegan. We have several members that call themselves vegan, yet their family members aren't.
Anyway, that's your choice. Nice to meet you and hope to see you around more!
Thanks for the welcome! :)
Hi and welcome....excellent to post after such a long time lurking!! Come and join the fun!
Yeah, I'd probably say you're vegan...just your family isn't, but I wouldn't stress over the label that much.
Also, I am jealous that you got a message from secondbase. I want one!
Yeah, it's kind of funny. I found the site doing a search for vegan recipes, and had to sign up to use the recipe box. I'd browse the recipes, find what I wanted, save it and leave. It wasn't until recently that I realized there were forums. I felt so voyeuristic after reading a couple I had to start posting! Thanks for the welcome shelloid!
While I'm here - thanks Tweety - I struggle with how to introduce my diet, though it seems odd to have to explain to "omnis" at all. That's the way it goes, I've found out. This is my happy medium, otherwise I get the smart aleck "What kind of vegan has chicken in the freezer" etc.... I hope my perspective changes soon so I can proudly and confidently wear the full vegan title!
Thanks laurenlovesgoodies for the happy welcome!
and thanks veganrun for being so warm and accepting!
Don't worry about the labels, my friend. What matters is who you are, not what you are called.
Pigeonholes are for pigeons.
Welcome, doing the best you can is better than nothing, my boyfriend is not vegan...hes probably 97 % in eating a vegan diet, but thats because thats what I keep in the house/cook. I hope one day he will be is but thats where we're at. I remeber being a little nervous when first starting to post because even though I had been vegetarian for a long time, I wasn't totally sure what classified as vegan. After starting to become more invested in VW and getting a couple cookbooks I became more confident. Everyone was always helpful and friendly to me. No one made me feel like an inferrior vegan ever. I appreciate every vegan meal people eat! Check out the Stroller Derby forum, its full of parenting/kids Q &A and has lots of vegan meal/snack ideas for kiddos. Nice to meet you

Oh, yes, I would totally agree. I misread the original post! Sorry yacahana! When I read that your lifestyle wasn't vegan, I thought that you meant that you still wore leather or used products with animal derivatives. My apologies for not reading more carefully. You're going to be a great influence on your family. My boyfriend was most certainly not vegan when we got together, but since I buy the groceries and I make the delicious vegan meals, now he has transitioned to a vegan lifestyle and loves it. Good luck on your journey!
Yay nice to meet you... Geese I guess I'm an ass for never formally introducing myself to the forums... I just started posting... I am pretty new at this whole forum/ computer/ blog thing... It took me like 5 months to even realize vegweb had forums LOL
Welcome! I find people are very open to whatever lifestyle you have here and that makes it a great place to cyberly hang out :)

Hii! Don't worry, I'm a lurker too. I've posted a few times then lost my internet and was never able to reply to anything. But, hi! Nice to meet you!
