WANTED: a vegan bacon tutorial

I plan on making a birthday brunch for my mother in a couple of weeks.  She--and my father, and my partner--are meat-eaters.  I am not (duh).  I want to make this as enjoyable as possible for everybody, so I plan on including some "bacon."  I've come across a several great recipes, but I hit a snafu when it comes to the liquid smoke element.  I'm NOT a fan of the weird chemical flavor that accompanies most of the liquid smoke that I've tried--although to be fair, my experience is pretty limited.  I was wondering if anyone had a recommendation for the best liquid smoke to use when making fake-on, as well as any general tips for making it a success--I've never attempted it before!  Thanks in advance

The only liquid smoke I've ever used is Stubbs, and I've always liked it. This is my favorite vegan bacon:http://www.recipezaar.com/Vegan-Bacon-148899
I probably use more oil that 1 tbs for frying..
Here's a picture of it on a sandwich (mine never looks like that picture on recipezaar):

it's on the top.

Skip the liquid smoke if you don't like it. Use smoked paprika (also called "Pimenton de la Vera") instead. Costco has a year's supply for something like $4.
