vegieworld

So i was looking at this site today and it kind of weirds me out.  a lot of their mock meats look so freaking real that I don't even think I can bring myself to ever try them.

I was wondering if anyone else ever tried any of their things.

Veggie World

I don't really like TVP products and no matter how they're shaped they all end up tasting like flavored TVP.  A store within driving distance carries another brand that's the same type of items.  I bought them when I was brand new to being vegan.  Well, some of them.  Some had egg white in the batter for the coating.  You might feel happier knowing that they're meh.

Conceptually, someone being vegan doesn't mean that they don't like meat, it's just that they've made a decision not to eat it.  So, for those people, I'm sure these types of food are a comforting treat.  I'd rather have beans.

You have to be careful because a study was done and it has shown that even if an item is vegan, it may still have meat in it (because of translation issues, ingredients lists not being complete, suppliers, et cetera). that scares me.

whoa....that is crazy.  Also, it's good to know thy are made from TVP.  I tried TVP one time over a year ago and it was nasty.  Also, for some reason, TVP I believe is the kind of soy that messes with my thyroid meds, because when i ate the fake boca patties and stuff it would swell up and i'd feel gross...but I've had tofu/soy pudding 4 days this past week and I have fealt great.

We're poor , so we've been trying to adjust our entire manner of living which basically rests on the idea that besides a bag of pretzels and chocolate bar for the week, if we can't make it from scratch we aren't eating it.

I'm wondering how doing this for a while will affect my taste for like the vegan chicken patties and such. we may find we don't like them anymore once we try them again....

Depending on your issues, soy is not your best friend if you're on thyroid meds. It can interfere with absorption. I have low thyroid and all soy products (milk, tofu, whatever) make me gain astronomical amounts of weight. I mean, I would eat a pound of tofu in the course of a week, and gain like 2-3 pounds. My nutrionist told me to avoid wheat flour, corn and soy.

when i was vegetarian, any amount of soy would cause me a little problem, my threshold for weight management was about 1-2 servings a week.

I'm still not gonna like go bonkers on it or anything, but I have noticed that if i have things like soymilk or tofu i can have more servings a week than if it's something like a processed patty or tvp.  Haven't tried tempeh yet...

It's really weird.  I'm thinking either my body is doing better with absorbing my meds in a timely manner, or now that I'm vegan and not getting the hormones from the dairy on TOP of the hormones from the soy, my threshold may be higher.

I still prefer seitan and almond milk =-)
