Turnip madness!!!

I did some electrical work out on my Grandpas farm the other day and as I was finishing up, he asked me if I liked turnips. I told him I did and he came back a few minutes later with a whole mess of them that he had just dug up. Now I have a delima...I don't know what to do with them. Whenever I ate them in the past, I just ate them like an apple with a bit of salt on them. There are way to many of them for me to eat them all like that. I searched the recipe section for turnip recipes, but didn't come up with anything. Anyone know of a good way to prepare them? Also, should I refrigerate them?

Damn, just saw the giant turnip thread. Oops, must be turnip season. :)

I just made mashed potatoes and turnips the other night.  Twice as much potatoes to turnips. Cube both veggies, boil the turnips for about 12 minutes, then add the potatoes. Boil til done, then mash and make them however you like your mashed potato dish.  Any leftover can be doctored with chees, chives, and bread crumbs to be patties.

Make a potato casserole as usual and add sliced turnips to it as well. The turnips can add a sort of peppery, sweetish flavor. I love them. I used to eat them raw as a kid.

Grate them and add to grated potatoes to make has browns or latkes.

Hmm, he told me they were turnips. Damn! Now you've got me wondering...He is 86, maybe he told me the wrong thing. I'll investigate.

Turnip and carrots!  My grandma makes this for every holiday and we love it!  Just peel 1 part turnip and 2 parts carrots, boil them until they're soft, drain the water and mash them up.  Fabulous with a little salt and vegan butter.  :)
