Slimey Tofu?

hey all,

I've had this problem a few times where my tofu straight out of the package is slimy, or it goes slimy if I don't use it all. The due date is usually fine so why does it do this?  only recently has this been happening, no problems before, any ideas?

Well, you should change the water that your tofu is sitting in pretty much every day or it will get slimy, I find.  But as for it being slimy as soon as you open it...I mean, if it doesn't smell bad, then I'd just say it's normal?  Can you try a different brand maybe?

that happens to me too when i buy handmade tofu from the Vietnamese market.. i just rub off the slime under running water and its all good.. the slime doesnt smell very good, but once i wash it off everything is chill.. the tofu tastes and smells fine

thanks gals! I stored it in a little baggie, so it wasn't sitting in water.. but looking around online a lot of people say tofu gets slimey when going bad.. it smells ok I think? but now I'm just grossed out but the slime! haha.. I will for sure be buying a different brand.. I'm temporarily living in a smaller city and the small health food store doesn't have many options.. :(

I was looking forward to making a vegan tofu bacon sandwich..darn

i would still use it..

but then again i am the master of using questionably good food.. i will cut around mold and use the rest of something.. or wash it repeatedly till it smells and feels fine.. etc etc.. i HATE wasting food and will find ways to use it.. if you have juice that goes bad, use it to make sourdough bread! it totally works and tastes way good..

but thats just me ;)
