haha, We are going to the grocery store today. I plan on eating just mostly fruits and vegetables... I'm kind of a veggie person, I prefer celery and tomatoes and lettuce, to cooked things ( mostly because it takes all the neccesary nuitrients out when everything is cooked). I'll probably make something raw and post about it on my blog... but I'm not promising good results! haha

I heard that steamed vegetables have the most bioavailable nutrients. Not that I'm bashing raw. I was raw last week. Just sayin'.

I like being raw. If I had a dehydrator, I'd likely be 95% raw. I feel better when eating fresh, organic, raw food, but I like it to be blended or broken down in some way. I don't chew all that thoughroughly, so I figure that helps break things down to be more available.

I've been wanting a dehydrator for a while now and I'm using this as my excuse to go and get one this week! I also pulled my sprouter out and dusted it off. :)

oh wow, that dehydrator looks pretty sweet! They don't have thosei n Brazil though, but isn't there a way to do it in the oven for a couple of hours? or does that ruin the "rawness" of the food?

To be raw, I don't think the temp can go above 118F (~48C), and none of the ovens I've ever owned go down that far.

Are any oils acceptable in raw foods diets? I ask because I have found some raw foods recipe sites where no oils are used and others where hemp, flax, and olive oils are used. I have unfiltered olive oil but I don't know if I can use it in dressings during the raw week. Isn't heat used during the refining/processing?

Bariani is a cold pressed, unfiltered olive oil which you should be able to use. Here is the website:
If you click on the retail tab it should give you retail locations by state.

I absolutely want to go raw for a week. I don't think I'll be ready by the 29th though. :( I just bought Raw Food Made Easy online & I am awaiting its arrival. I am also in the process of choosing a spiral slicer. I think I've decided to get the World Cuisine Vegetable Slicer. I really want this so I can make vegetable pastas. Here's a link...
I have a dehydrater that I bought several years ago. It was one of those "As seen on TV" things. It doesn't have temperature settings, just blows air around. I will try making "burgers" & "breads" in my crap dehydrater & see how it goes.
I'm really excited to go try going raw. I just know I need to be well prepared or I won't make it a week. I can't wait to see everyones progress.
BTW can anyone recommend any good books on the raw diet. Maybe one that explains what foods are considered raw?
Thanks! :)

Nice slicer...I want one! I just reserved the copy of Raw & Radiant by Mary Rydman at the Border's up the road. I'm going to pick it up after work today and go dehydrator shopping.

Well, that was disappointing. I reserved the book online which the website showed as in stock and got up there and it was not in stock. I ended up buying The Raw Truth instead. Then I went to Target, Linens and Things, and even the evil Walmart and nobody had a freakin' dehydrator!! Grrrrrr! >:(
On a brighter note, I stopped at Whole Foods and found some raw garlic and dill dressing and marinade, raw flax seed crackers, raw spinach and basil pesto, and four raw nut butters. At least I have options besides salad, salad, salad. Tonight I'm going to eat whatever I want because tomorrow it's all smoothies and gazpacho!

I've researched dehydrators and I like Excalibur's 5-Tray with a 26 hour Timer (#3526T) the best.
