Pan fried seitan?

Ok, so I've had a bit of an issue frying homemade seitan yesterday. I used plenty of oil, but the seitan seemed to soak it up and stick to the pan, so I didn't get to brown it. Anybody have any idea what I could do to avoid this? I used Isa's recipe from Vegan with a Vengeance, so it was boiled seitan.

do you have problems with other things sticking to this same pan? maybe the non stick wore off? was the seitan plain or did you coat it with some kind of sauce? it shouldn't stick if you're using plenty of oil and it hasn't been coated with sauce... i dunno :/

Was the oil hot before you added the seitan?  I haven't ever cooked with it, so I don't know if this applies, but in general if you try to fry something in oil that isn't hot yet, it just absorbs the oil and gets greasy.  Hot oil is needed to truly fry something.  If this doesn't apply, kindly ignore my ignorance.

Was it home made seitan or store bought? I make my own and always boil it for 1 hour in the preparation. I fry it a lot and it fries up not too different from meat.

As stated previously, having the oil hot makes things absorb less oil.

The pan wasn't a non-stick and it was homemade seitan. I usually don't have any problems sauteeing vegetables, frying tofu etc. in the that pan. It's been a while since I've had to brown meat, lol. Maybe I'll try using a higher heat or investing in a non-stick skillet.

It would also depend on how watery your seitan is. If I bake it, then it's harder to fry it. If I simmer it and it's nice and juicy, then I think it's a lot easier to pan fry. Hot oil=good too!
