nutritional yeast

I have used this a couple times and everytime I can taste it,its soo strong but when Ive had it in gravies etc others make I dont taste it, is there different flavors for different brands of nutritional yeast?

How long have you been vegan?  I could be totally off on this, but utritional yeast is an aquired taste I believe.  When I first when vegan I bought a huge bag of the stuff and hated it except in very small quanitities.  Many years later I bought some again and loved it.  I'm actually eating some on popcorn right now.  I have been able to use the cashew cheese sauce with nutritional yeast in recipes and onmis thing it is velveeta.  Stick with recipes that just use a little, or only use the "cheese" sauces in strongly flavored recipes and not on their own.  I also used to half the nutritional yeast in most recipes and then add more to taste.

As to brands,I really don't think that matters much.  Just make sure you are using nutritional yeast and not brewers yeast or even bakers yeast.  There is a huge difference.

I also love the nutritional yeast, and I can't imagine living without it. I suggest putting it in things in small quantities first. Like, a tablespoon or 2 in tofu scramble, same amount in gravies and sauces. I love it straight on popcorn, too, and I love it as a cheese sauce. Keep trying different ideas. It's good for you!

Hi,
the first time I tried it (very early on in being vegan), I hated it. Although, I think it might have been the brand. It's a brand from Italy (the family I work for is 1/2 Italian and the grandparents brought it). I've had some other french brands and they've all been fine.

Like many others who posted, it takes some getting used to. I didn't like it very much in sauces, but I would add it to pasta or in soup and such to get b-12.

One day I tried a new "cheese" sauce and it was HORRIBLE! I put it in the fridge, tried it again two days later and it was DELICIOUS! And now I make it all the time.

It does take getting used to, I LOVE it now and seriously use it on everything, but at first I wasn't wild about the taste.  I always buy it in bulk, and the flakes taste much better, (to me,) than the powdered form. I've read the powdered form is just more condensed, so touse less of it.  But I still do not like it,it tastes different to me.
