My lentils have gone on over a week not sprouting. They're in a clear glass jar that I've rinsed 3-4 times a day and refilled with water and covered with a thin cloth....what could be wrong? Is there something wrong with the lentils?
the could be incapable of sprouting (dead?)
You should get a new bunch and try again..
Did you soak the lentils at all beforehand?

That is what I was going to ask... soak for 8 hours or overnight and then rinse twice to three times a day but do not soak again..
Lentils should be washed in warm water and then after soking in warm(about 90F) for another 2 to 3 hours, transfer to a sieve which is prelined with kitchen tissue paper.
After that, cover the lentils with wet tissue paper and place the whole thing near a place which has warm air current.
Take care that the lentils do not dry by keeping the top tissue paper wet.
Leave it overnight.
At the end of the next day, the lentils would have started sprouting.

I used to soak them overnight in my refrigerator and they'd still sprout! lol.
But they are quick sprouter, in three days they got pretty long tails on them!
Thanks for all the tips...I think I'll start a fresh batch using your methods! Wish me luck! :)
If they've been heat-treated to "kill germs" they will never sprout in this world.
