Making Your Own Bread
Hola, peeps!
I'm vegetarian and am taking steps to become vegan, but one of the major issues I have is with bread.
I love me some store-bought, whole wheat bread! But it's SO hard to find bread without animal products... especially honey. It's in everything. Even products not labeled as having dairy or eggs have chemical ingredients I know are dairy-derived.
(1) SO, I have a Magic Chef breadmaker that works fine, but I am curious about this one, because it makes the loaf like the store-bought:
I'll probably stick with my machine now, but just want to see if anyone uses that machine.
(2) Also, one other question-- do those bread slicer things work... where you line the loaf up with the grooves? That's really my big issue. When I make my loaf, I always have a horrible time cutting it and on the rare occasions when I get slices, they're huge and not shaped quite right. :)
Any insight is appreciated.
Thanks!
Tones
I actually have an older version of this machine, it is worth the money in my mind. Mine is almost 10 yrs old and still going strong and I use it several times a week. I make both whole wheat for my family and GF bread for myself. It make a large loaf, 2 lbs. Very programable, which is great for Gluten free, but makes regular bread too.
Haha my boyfriend uses that breadmaker.
The bread is great but I think his kitchen counter is uneven, because when we program it to have bread ready in the morning it throws itself around the countetop with the kneading cycle and makes loud thumping noises.
That is not related to your question though. To answer, yes the bread comes out awesome. And it's probably not loud on a level surface. lol.
I have never heard of the slot-slicing things. Is this what you are talking about?

They look pretty cool, I don't see how that would NOT work, it just looks like it guides your knife in a straight line while giving you something to hold the bread in place. The design is simple enough, it seems like you could make your own out of wood pretty easily if you do not want to buy one. (Actually that's a neat gift idea. Hmmmmm)
Anyway I'm rambling, but good luck!
I have the Zojirushi mini, it works great but sometimes I wish I'd gotten that one you linked. I usually bake the bread in the oven anyway but when I do use my mini it makes loaves shaped like weird tall cubes.
I do have a bread slicer, which you put the bread into, it helps get even slices and more slices out of a loaf. I know its a one purpose kitchen gadget, but it really helps, and for me who makes all my own GF bread, worth it. Have seen many at resale shops, you may be able to get one there really cheap.
Thanks for your help, everyone! I think I'll stick with my breadmaker now and get a good knife and one of those slicers. Then, when I become rich, I'll buy that nice machine.
