Kombucha tea?

Has anyone heard of the Kombucha tea? I found it a couple months ago while browsing random websites, and the whole idea has been stuck in my head since then. I actually joined a yahoo! group and asked for a culture (it reproduces every time you brew), so hopefully I'll be making my own tea by this time next week. I'm still curious, though - has anyone else ever heard of this tea?

First, let the kombucha sit with the scobies for about 9 days. Then, remove scobies and let sit again for another several days. Then, bottle and fizz.
I'm new at this though - this is just what I was shown. :)

I'm psyched to have found this thread! I've read so much about homebrewing around the random interwebs, but I trust you guys more.  :)

Does anyone know what the whole issue is behind Whole Foods pulling all their kombucha products? Could it really contain a significant amount of actual alcohol? Is it partly a pasteurization issue? Or what?

Regardless, it's a good thing for me - now I'll have to either homebrew or quit drinking it, either of which has to be cheaper and healthier than buying it.
