Homemade Oreos recipe

My mom has requested homemade oreos but I can't find a recipe that does not include an egg.  What do you all think would be the because substitute for the egg?  I was thinking flax seed but don't want the cookies to taste healthy.  I can post the link to the recipe if needed.

i like to use blended silken tofu for eggs in cookies. makes them soft.

you could also try some kind of starch.

the book "vegan cookies invade your cookie jar" has an oreo recipe in it that is vegan.

Speaking of vegan oreos from vciycj, where do you find black cocoa powder?  I don't think I've ever seen it.

I made the cookies but just left out the egg to see how it would effect them.  They came out fine.

I just used regular cocoa powder for mine.  I'm not sure if the black cocoa powder gives it a different taste along with color though.

Speaking of vegan oreos from vciycj, where do you find black cocoa powder?  I don't think I've ever seen it. 

I once saw it at a Smart & Final, but not anywhere else aside from online. I get mine at www.kingarthurflour.com/shop ; the price isn't bad for the amount you get, but there's shipping. So, when I order it I usually find other things to order on the site, like espresso powder or some of their mixes that are vegan (like the chocolate lava cake one!).

Black cocoa, I think, is more alkali processed than regular cocoa. It's not acidic at all, and much more bittersweet. It kind of changes the texture of what you're baking though, so you can't really sub all the cocoa as black cocoa (and I think the Oreo recipe from VCIYCJ uses part regular, part black), plus I've noticed black cocoa things tend to go stale sooner. I think it's worth trying, though, because it gives a more "authentic" flavor to fake oreos and hostess. Plus it makes black hot cocoa.
