You are here

on the go food.

ok i am currently on a 3 month bike trip. and have no access to cooking supplys (minus my little stove, and not enough gas to make anything worthwhile) what are so things i can get from stores that would be suitable for giving me energy for cycling.

the towns stores very from very tiny stores to larger chain ones. so anything works because well hit larger ones every 4-5 days or so.

Cheers!

Dried fruit and nuts, trail mix etc. Cheaper to buy the dried fruits etc and make your own trail mix than buying a brand, btw.
Muesli is good...trailmix plus oats and other cereals.

noodles are fast cooking, atleast rice noodles or ramen.. dont know where you are travelling so its possible they have that.
Crackers and spreads. Canned beans, not too many but one or two should be nice.

figs and dates if you can get them. you can ake some salads and have something warm in it (fried onions, toasted seeds, a cooked vegie), or fast rice if your stove can handle that.

sounds like some good choices, right now i am in missouri, and have illinois then kentucky (those are probably the hardest to get alot of choices since i am going through small towns) but once i hit virginia and up to boston there should be more choices and what not

also cous cous.. its pretty fast. I cant remember choices in the us in supermarkets apart from may beans with suaces had chicken stock in them.
spice mixtures can make a difference. TVP also cooks fast.
In small places you can always make many sandwiches with vegetables or just with spreads and eat fruits.

What have you been eating?

right now,

i have been eating alot of fruits and vegetables, trail mix nuts and what not. we do have some rice, but we packed this expensive japanese rice (my mothers side is from japan) so its not instant cook, and we have to pretty much cook it when we couchsurf, since it just wastes gas cooking raw rice.

once in a while i wil throw an egg in. but its not too bad other than those. but its hard to get energy from it.
