Chickpeas still OK to eat?

I started soaking some chickpeas on Sun night with the intention of cooking them on Monday. I got busy with end of term stuff and only now (Tues) just cooked them (I didn't try one)- I was going to make roasted chickpeas. Are they still OK to eat? They've been at room temp the whole time and I can'ttell if they've started to ferment yet.HELP! I don't want to waste if I don't have to. :o
Oh, and by the way, the quickest way to cook chickpeas....
Traditional Slow Soak: In a stockpot, cover 1 pound dried beans with 10 cups water. Cover and refrigerate 6-8 hours or overnight. Drain and rinse the beans.
Hot Soak: In a stockpot, bring 10 cups water to a boil. Add 1 pound dried beans and return to a boil. Remove from the heat; cover tightly and set aside at room temperature 2-3 hours. Drain and rinse the beans.
Quick Soak: In a stockpot, bring 10 cups water to a boil. Add 1 pound dried beans and return to a boil; let boil 2-3 minutes. Cover and set aside at room temperature 1 hour. Drain and rinse the beans.
old would be a-ok?
Just curious....
p.s.
I eat 'sketchy' food all the time. I think the 'throw it out' test should be a more case-by-case sort of thing...
for instance, moldy bread. just pull of the moldy pieces and it's good as new ;D
I have found though, that you can not just scrape the "moldy bits" off of hummus - the whole tub will taste like a$$ :(

And you can give yourself a dose of pencilin all at the same time, hehehe.
You're right, I've done that, the bread was fine....

Thanks for the warning.
Mouldy flat bread can be a pain though... if it's really thin, picking off the mould will leave holes all over it. Not too good for wraps afterwards.
so this one time i got some sort of roasted vegetable bruschetta (in glass). Opened it, ate some, put it in the fridge for a few days, tried it again. It was... different. I told my mom: "Hey, this stuff is... fizzy." and she went all berserk "don't eat it don't eat it throw it out!" I swallowed what was in my mouth, all "Huh?"
Turns out fizzy means it's bad.
I thought I discovered a way of making soda.

ooh yeah, that's because molds have mycelia which are sore of like extensions that grow throughout the food. Never eat moldy anything that's liquid or semi-solid (like vegan cream cheese) because you can't see those suckers!
I ate the chickpeas yeasterday and I'm fine- there wasn't any mold.
laine-- good you see you survived the chickpea ordeal!
j/k....
i've read not to eat the bread also because spores will go all over. i always keep bread in the fridge, so it seldom goes funky.
yep, you're right baypuppy- the spores can grow throughout the bread and can be dangerous to eat. Basically anything soft/liquid or with a low density(like bread) you should toss if there is any mold visible. Things like hard cheese (if you eat that sort of thing!) are OK as long as you cut at least 1.3 cm around the moldy spot in all directions!
Eurgh, fungus.
Um... ah... ::) ??? ... why do poeple eat fungus (mushrooms) anyway?
Is bread mould really all that different? :o ;) :P (I know it's a different species, but.)

I don't eat them....I can't get over the fungus part.

Yays! I'm not alone, then. ((mirrya)) ::) ;)
I had a big tub of earth balance (the economy size) for over a year. I recently got down to the bottom of it and it was covered in mold! The expiration wasn't up for another 3 months. :-X
Now that I'm done shivering from gross-out-isity...I think I'm done with Earth Balance for a while
I hate mold, grosses me out completely. I mean, I eat stuff off the floor almost habitually...won't wash eating utencils and stuff like that. But no sir, the slightest discoloration that MAY be mold anywhere in the near future will either go to the dog or to the roommates
But I do love me some fungus
Fungi are the veg*n's friend; chock full of protien.
Just don't be pickin your own out in the woods unless you reeeaaaally know what you're doin. Or have a death wish.
Take it from the lady with the amanite avatar.
