How thoroughly do you wash it? Do you wash all the inner leaves or just peel off outer skin and rinse.... i like to chop it in the shape it is, so I don't usually take it all apart to wash all the crevices, just most of the outermost visible leaves..is this bad? however, with leeks i wash all the way because of the obvious dirt
I'm so bad about washing vegetables. Like, I rarely do unless I can actually see dirt (the spinach we get is covered in dirt because it comes from a local farm...that, I wash) or if I do, it's just a quick rinse...not really a thorough scrubbing. So what I do with cabbage is just chop it up, throw it in a colander, give it a quick rinse, and throw it in whatever recipe I'm making.

You can cut it in your preferred style and then just wash it in a sink of water after cutting it. At a restaurant I used to work at, we filled a sink with water and a little salt to soak lettuce and cabbage to kill any bugs. I would be more upset finding a dead inch-worm in my salad than one that creeped out from under a carrot. For the record, I have had the experience of a salad buddy. He was a tiny green inch-worm and I worried that they killed him after they took my plate away.
Peel off the outer leaves if it's oxheart cabbage (the hard, tightleaved white cabbage). Soak in brine water if it's the curly bright-green kind.
I soak the cabbage in salted water after I cut it up. I have this spinning thingey that helps get all the water out. I grew up with a mother who insisted that salad greens be washed 3 times and then 3 times more - just to be sure, though. Now it is just habit with me.
I just wash off the outside of the whole head and then chop it up!
I wash the outside thoroughly. Then remove leaf by leaf, remove the middle hard stalk and then shred the leaves into 4 mm shreds.
I use center stalk to make salad . (I cut them in very small pieces and add oil, spices and salt).
Shredded leaves are used to make veg curry.
