Bread Crumb Substitute?

Does anyone know if you can substitute wheat bran in a recipe that calls for bread crumbs? Like bean burgers; could you use wheat bran to bind it together instead of bread crumbs? I have lots of wheat bran in my freezer, but no bread crumbs and I would like to make some black bean burgers!
Yeah, I'd try that if I were in your situation. :)

Thanks, it actually worked out quite well! Just had to add a little more than the bread crumb version called for.
That's good to know.
I'd imagine any kind of bran would soak up more moisture than breadcrumbs and give a slightly different texture...?

Yes, I had to use more wheat bran than the 1/4 cup breadcrumb version, but it did not change the texture too much. It kind of gave it a flaky texture almost like a crab cake. I did not notice any change in the flavor.
hey, that's pretty neat. i'm sure that it's healthier than bread crumbs too. (Not that I have anything against bread). Good to know...
