Birthday Party Help...

My mom is coming for my daughter's 14th birthday in August. She will be spending the night with us. Here's my problem, Mom is omni and pretty much turns her nose up at veg*n foods and the lifestyle in general. I don't want to buy meat just for her, nor do I wish to cook it! Is it O.K. for me to prepare only veg*n foods? Or would that make me a "bad" daughter and hostess? :-\ How do you all handle omnis at your homes for special occasions? Thanks for the advice! :)

Thanks, that's how I feel. :)

I would make omni friendly recipes and that would be it.  Simple food that you know go over well with no obvious tofu or nooch.  Spaghetti, enchiladas, paella, and the like.  Also, have decadent knock her socks off desserts in abundance.

You could have picnic or bbq foods with the salads made from veganaise and the veggies grilled.

I would not step too far out of your everyday cooking, but offer the easy to eat vegan dishes that fit with it.

Omni friendly foods include pasta salad and potato salad.  Both are pretty easy to make.

I totally agree with everyone else.  I usually do a few different fresh salsas with tortilla chips plus veggies and dips, they go over pretty well with omnis.

I am with everybody else.  If she wants meat, she can go out to a restaurant and get it.  I have a policy, no meat is allowed to come through my door...well at least  no dead flesh I mean.  When people come to visit me I cook vegetarian for them, if they don't like it, then tough.  Chad, who used to be my best friend, was always a problem.  He hates veggies.  I LOVE veggies.  So everything I cooked that I thought he would probably like, he hated.  Eww, tofu.  Eww spinach.  Eww brocolli.  I mean, I made a lasagna, it was delicious, it had spinach in it, he didn't like it, I didn't know that he didn't like spinach, ugh.  So now I am just like, don't like it?  Then starve.  I am a damn good cook, but you  have to like veggies to like my cooking.

I totally agree.  I would say that i dont want my pots/pans/silverware touching meat.  no meat in the house.  yadda yadda.  good luck! i hope it goes alright!

The first time i had omis at MY house after going vegan from vegetarian...I bought them meat...they didnt even eat it all and I felt bad for the animals in my freezer. (who were eventually consumed by my dogs and people who needed food)

But its not a thing Im willing to do again in the future. happily, its just ovenight...so whats that, 3 meals tops? the salads, the pastas, the chili...

for breakfast maybe pancakes or waffles...not scrambled tofu
