Fruit, well chilled and kept cold in a chill box until eaten. Wine ditto Crusty wholegrain bread (I would say "cheese" because I eat cheese, but I don't know if there's a vegan cheese out there that will stand up to being eaten in this combo. Is there?)

I like Yabbit's menu plan, except I want my wine at room temperature, and I'd like to add Marcona almonds with olive oil and rosemary, and some marinated olives.
I might also need to bring the tofu spread appetizer they serve at Millennium.
Depends on the wine. A white would need to be chilled. I was thinking of a particular local wine when I posted that, I must admit!

I like the ideas already posted. One could possibly add a slice of nice vegan quiche, also kept cool.

I'm having a picnic tomorrow with a low carb meat eater that fortunately isn't a picky eater and adventurerous. I'm bringing a bag of fresh spinach, and we'll have chickpea salad....made just like tuna or chicken salad except with mashed chickpeas, and greek lentil salad. He'll eat his over the fresh spinach and I'll eat mine chickpea salad on whole grain bread. We're also having fruit salad, and he's bringing "snack foods" that he said will be vegan.

One of my most successful picnic foods was the eggplant salad in Mediterranean Vegan--the one in the back of the book under "Pita with Eggplant Salad". I brought along a container of just the salad and stuffed it in the pitas when we ate. Everyone loved it.
My second favorite picnic food are cold, homemade breaded and fried chicken-style cutlets, because they are so reminiscent of cold fried chicken. But they are a lot of work, and I don't make them often. Another fun picnic food is to bring a thermos of tofu pups or whatever veggie hot dogs packed in hot water and then pull them out when you are ready to eat and put them on buns wtih fixins. I saw that idea in VT once and I have often sent my kids to school with veggie dogs in their thermoses with the rolls on the side.

appetizers: small grape tomatoes, large blueberries, kalamata olives main dish: curried chickpea salad with greens in lavash pinwheels side: l2a's DH's potato angels dessert: sliced watermelon with thinly ribboned mint non-alc beverage: double bergamot earl grey iced tea alc beverage: lambic beer or lemonade spiked with raspberry vodka
eta: My friend definitively says lemonade and vodka over carbonation.
I also recently read about this recipe: sliced tomatoes and peaches, thinly sliced red onion and chopped cilantro or rosemary. Dress at the last minute with olive oil, lemon juice, salt and pepper.

Oh man that does look good!! I totally forgot Lucid Anne's famous lentil rice salad. Every time I make it I celebrate the lovely person she was. And it gets better the longer it sits around.
