Pre-Thanksgiving-Vegan-Thanksgiving-Potluck! Albany, NY!
I've decided it's close enough to fall, fall being "September" to start talking about the next Albany potluck. I'm proposing an official
PRE-THANKSGIVING-VEGAN-THANKSGIVING-POTLUCK at chez rabid child in Albany.
All the great things about Thanksgiving without the dead bird! I'm thinking some weekend in late October or early November. The only weekend that I know of that would be bad for me right now is the w/e of Oct 25/26 because I'm going to have a take-home midterm to deal with that weekend. Hmph. I figure starting to plan early gives us ample time to figure out schedules and plan pre-potluck diets to accommodate the the massive amount of carbs and dessert we'll be consuming. I'm opening this up to all three of my internet-veg-hangouts, which is going to be great fun coordination wise! SO!
Who's interested? What weekends are you free? Saturday or Sunday? Who's bringing the pumpkin pie? (Ok, I guess that's a few steps further down the line)
(Can you tell the semester just started and I need something to look forward to before Christmas?)
I don't have any particularly bad weekends. All I know is that Albany is less than 2 hours from me, so I'll definitely be there!
I do prefer Saturday because I am a teacher and I do my planning and prep on Sunday. Also, since I am coming from farther away, I won't be able to stay very late if it's on Sunday. :(
I'm FINALLY gonna get my ass to one of these Albany soirees!
Interesting! October 24-27 is our trip to Texas. Most other weekends are free at the moment!

I've got a guest room with a full sized bed as well if people need crash space. But you have to like cats... and not be allergic to them... and be ok with them maybe trying to wake you up at all hours to feed them. =^.^=

Wait, so this would be on a Saturday night then, for example? Because I might be one of those weirdos. If I may.
There is no way I am going to miss this one. October 18/19th is the only weekend that doesn't work for me, but that's probably too early anyways. And if people still need a place to stay my apartment is right down the street.
I also can't do the 18th. Otherwise should be fine!
Right now I'm leaning towards November 8th. The weekend before is Halloween weekend and I'm sure people will be partying for that (we always seem to have to "make appearances" in costume a few places), and the weekend after I'll probably be going downstate to have Thanksgiving a week early with my family since they have a wedding to go to actual Thanksgiving weekend, and traffic sucks actual thanksgiving.
Would that work for everyone?

Explain to me a holiday loaf? And sure! I'm all for a pre-pre-thanksgiving-vegan-thanksgiving-potluck-cooking-coop. I made an awesome stuffed seitan loaf thing a few thanksgivings ago. It's a Bryanna Clark Grogan thing so it takes all freakin day, but comes out very yummy. I also make a great citrus apple cranberry sauce! Gotta have cranberry sauce. And gravy. And yes to pies of all sorts. Many, many pies.
My dh is from Troy so we have tons of family in the area (my SIL lives in Saratoga). I probably can't make this one, but next time we come up I will let ya'll know and I will insist on another Albany potluck/get-together!

Oh yea, they're awesome. I've made the non-stuffed ones, both ham and turkey, a few times. I usually make as many loaves as I have bread pans at once and then freeze them for future use. We could make a day of it :D
I've decided we have to have hot mulled cider. I've even got a crockpot now so I can leave it steeping all day. The house will smell AWESOME!
bp and I compiled a "suggested menu" for the potluck during the veg expo afterparty this past weekend. Before I post the actual list and force people to sign up for things -- does anyone have any idea of something they'd like to bring? I'll either add it to the list or stick your name next to it when I post our suggestions :P
