You are here

I'm in Philadelphia. Are you?

Do we have an VW-ers in or around Philadelphia?  I am here for a few weeks, so if there are, we should meet up!  There is a vegan restaurant I want to go to but it remains to be seen whether or not I can get people to come.

I'm in! I'll meet you there. Oh....wait... :(

:( you are about three hours away from me, but I suppose that is the closest any of the VegWebbers I know have been to Cincinnati...

Oh come on AC, Pensylvania and Montana are virtually neighbors!  :w00t!:
Just Kidding!  ;)

Not currently--but I'm originally from there! Get to the Cherry Street Vegetarian Restaurant in Chinatown-- it's wonderful!

BP--let me know if you have any Philly questions :)

Unfortunately I think Cherry Street closed  :( but I'm not positive.

KMK.  I live just outside of Philly!  I'd be happy to meet you somewhere and have dinner.  What vegan restaurant are you talking about?  There is Horizon, which I haven't been to yet, or Govinda's which is really, really good.

NOOO! You're right! That's what I get for recommending a restaurant somewhere I no longer live. I'm surprised my SIL didn't tell me this... she was in love with it and introduced it to me.

When I googled this came up as a potential substitute:

http://www.suxinghouse.com/menu1.html

15th and Sansom isn't exactly Chinatown, but... close enough  ;)

Have a great time! Horizons used to be located about 20 minutes from where I grew up. Was so sad that I never got to it...  :( ... wasn't a very good veggie back then.

This is what I came up with:

http://www.giannasgrille.com/

All the desserts are vegan, and most of the other things they say are "veganizable."

OK, so let me see how my schedule is going and we can think about getting dinner one weekend, biodancer!

I should!

I'm so scared of cities though.  Terrified.  I don't like them.  I'm kind of scared of the thought of making my way to NYC by myself.  I can handle a subway/bus ride within Philly, though.  Maybe.  :-\

There is a fantastic Ethiopian cafe named Kaffa Crossing 4423 Chestnut @44th. I go there nearly every time I am in Philly.
Perfect fair trade organic coffee, veg combo and some vegan deserts.

The is also Satellite Cafe @ 701 S. 50th St. Good vegan options and desserts.

For Chinese vegan there is 1010 Cherry St. Which if I recall correctly that have machines in the basement that process all on site. I wandered down there once and to my amazement to where all vegan faux things conjured. There is also Kingdom, 129 N 11th Street.

On the topic of travel Fresh and Fressen in Toronto are freakin' kick ass.

I've heard of giannas but mostly average reviews.  I've never eaten there.  You should check out the philly thread on the ppk

Hrmmmmmm.....I'll look into it!  I can do it if I know someone would be able to meet me at the station.

Well, it would cost about $50 to go from Philly to NYC on the Greyhound, and it leaves like every half hour.  Not bad.  Are there other options that are better than Greyhound?  It's like the only bus I know.

OK, I live in the GTA and have never heard of Fresh and Fressen.  Where is it?

A great restaurant for anyone visiting Toronto is: Le Commensal.  The food is also kick ass!

http://www.commensal.ca/

Everything is labeled whether it is vegan, ovo lacto etc.  You put food on your plate, they weigh it and you pay by weight.

My omni sister loved it when we went.  Only been there once but might make a real effort to get back there this summer.

I have never been to Philly but would like to visit.  Have fun KMK!

Try  megabus.com...I fly out of NY July 30th...and my last day of work is July 17th sooooo if you have time...we could potentially plan to meet up!  the megabus is comfy, air conditioned free wifi...tempted yet?  Its like a two hour drive each way which isn't so bad for a fun day in NY :)

I am tempted!  It's super easy to take the subway to the bus station (no transfers, no nothing).  And then it's just the two hour bus ride!  That would be fun!  We could meet up and eat vegan foodz!  Lemme ponder.......

Wow, it's only $20-30 round trip!  OK, now I'm super tempted.  I can even do it all within a Saturday and return not-too-late on Saturday evening.  We could do something like Saturday the 19th, yeah?  I could also come on a Friday evening and do an overnight until Saturday afternoonish depending on what we want to do.  I didn't realize it would be so easy!  Thanks for your help!

Any other VWers in NYC?  We should make this a party!
