The Boston Veg Fest is this Saturday! I have been looking at it for a week or two and just made up my mind today to go. Unfortunately its going solo, plus I have to drive all alone as the trains simply do not run that way at the times I need.
Anyone else planning on going?
Link to the web site is HERE! They will have cooking demonstrations, free samples, two floors of exhibitors as well as FREE SAMPLES! Imagine, deliberately vegan free samples. *swoons*
I am so excited. The vegan blogs I lurk at and the PPK forum speak of herds of veggies, vegans and signed cookbooks. I cant wait!
sounds like alot of fun and delish as well.
Erik Marcus will be there signing books.
CeltKat and Dinkfeet have plans. And I think others do, too
Yep, I will be there bright and early at 10am! I have a game plan this year so as not to miss anything! Get there early so you can check out all of the exhibitors before the insane (oh and they will be massive) crowds show up. Then, hit all the speakers and cooking demos!! These start at 10:45am. and there is a new speaker/demo just about every 45 min until 6pm. I. CAN'T. WAIT.
Make sure you bring cash and/or a checkbook because most of the vendors don't take cards.
VegWeb should be a sponsor so we could have a table to meet at!
Should we all wear the same color so we can identify fellow Vegwebbers?? :D ;D :D ;D
Good idea CeltKat! I hope that some enterprising vegwebbers bring a camera and shoot some nice pics, or perhaps a video. I wish I could make it, but seeing pics and/or videos would be nice for for us isolated folk.
i'm so jealous.
Me too, all we ever have down here on the coast are seafood festivals. >:(
Getting there early is good advice, it does get seriously crowded as the day goes on. And some exhibitors run out of free samples, gasp!
All wearing the same color shirts would be funny. We'd look like we we're on a high school field trip. :P
I too planned on being their early. The PPK board had comments like 'hordes of people' and 'shoving their way through crowds' so I decided early was ideal! Oh, I also picked up the tip to bring a large canvas type bag to make carrying 'free samples' easier.
Thanks for cluing me in about cash! I probably would have been ok as I always carry my checkbook but I am way too dependent upon the bank card to buy things. haha
I would love to meet up though CeltKat and anyone else going. We should pick a place to meet if not wearing matching shirt colors. Though, I would hate to end up questioning anyone wearing burgundy if they were you. haha

Haha...or, have you ever seen those foreign travel groups? Everyone wears matching fanny-packs and the tour leader has a matching flag on a pole with the group's name on it. ;D
This would be hilarious, but I will NOT be bringing a "VegWeb" flag with me ;D ::) :P
maybe you can all where hats? or shirts with your "name" on them. HA HA HA!! i hope you all have a sweet time! do report back!
Oohhh...shirts with our "names" on the front and "VegWeb.com" on the back!
Haha the fanny packs. Too funny, but so true.
Cali, Celt, and whoever else, I'll hang out in front of the main entrance right at 10 if you want to meet there before going in. Just don't be late... 10:05 is entry time :) If I don't see ya then we'll surely run into each other inside
Cool, I'll be there at 10am sharp (sans electric lime green fanny pack and flag), unless the orange line has different plans for me. They're running shuttle buses from Haymarket north all weekend - PAIN!
Awesome, I am leaving home at 6:30 just to give myself extra time to get there by 10. More than likely I will be the gal that looks vaguely like a pirate. ;)
I'll make a dinkfeet shirt tonight! Should I put a pic of my bloody finger on it too? :P
What about name tags? With VegWeb in a bold orange and our (screen) names in green? heh

The Boston Vegetarian Food Festival was great this year, as always. CeltKat, Dinkfeet, Cali, and JW502 proudly represented Vegweb. But only Dink was cool enough to make an actual Vegweb shirt with her name on it ;D We didn't find Cali til 2 PM, and by total chance we sat in seats right in front of her out of a room of at least 250 people.
Showing up right at 10 AM didn't help, everyone seemed to have the same "beat the crowd" idea. Fighting the crowds was worth it though. The exhibitors were very good. Free samples from vendors such as Larabar, Tom's of Maine, Cherrybrook Farms, and many others. Also lots of vendors selling various vegan and vegetarian food, and lots of cookbooks/clothing/shoes. There were plenty of boothes for AR education too. We had some great vegan ice cream. CeltKat and Dinkfeet had the White Russian flavor, I had Peanut Butter flavor.
The speakers/demonstrators were great too. We watched chef Cathi DiCocco makes some really great soups from scratch, and we got to try them! The Tuscan White Beans and Greens Soup was good, but the Thai Sweet Potato Stew was truly awesome! We've all vowed to make it. Pester one of us to type up the recipe. Later on Michael Gregor gave a great and funny presentation about veg-related research studies that have been published over the past year.
Here is a Shutterfly pictures link. I hope it works for everyone. Let me know if it doesn't. Once you visit the website just click the View Pictures button.

I was there as well today and I was completely floored by the masses of people and yet I was completely thrilled by all of the free food and amazing vendors. I ran into dinkfeet first since she had her fabulous shirt on and she was with Celtkat. My friend Kate who works at Cafe Indigo with me was there and thought it was hillarious that I ran into friends from the internet :) they told me rumors of Cali running around and later I saw the three of them standing together so I got to meet her as well. It was fabulous meeting all of you ladies and I really hope that we can all meet up some other time :)
by the way.. I went to grasshopper afterwards in Boston and it was fabulous. I had a coconut bean shake and the fried tofu fingers as well as a number 102 (lo mein with veggie beef) and it was incredible. I totally think we should all have lunc there some day ;D
looks like good times. im jealous.
owalkerjillo...
oooohhhh... i loooove those fried gluten fingers!!
you have GOT to try the "no name" from grasshoppers. sooo good.
heck,
EVERYTHING is sooo good from there.
except the cockroaches on the wall, but whatever. ;D
Sweet pics JW! That's cool that you got to meet Isa! She's a rockin chef.
Wah, I wanna be in Boston this weekend, except I'm in Syracuse, and I didn't even get to meet up with Foofie or any of the others in this area.
i LOVE your shirt, dink.
